I was just wondering if any of you keep a little kit of "must-haves" in your PUs? Like duct tape, caulking, needle/thread, extra hoses, etc? Anything specifically that you would never leave home without? My husband thinks he can repair anything--- ANYTHING--- with a roll of duct tape.

If it moves and its nots susposed to Duct Tape.
If it doesn't move and its susposed to WD40 :J

GOd only knows what's in the "fixit" box. It's developed over a period of about 25 years.
I know there's duct tape, Visegrips, assorted odd scredrivers to fit the odd fasteners you find (including but not limited to square, butterfly and Torx), a couple of coat hangers (for heavy duty repairs duct tape won't handle), tube of RTV silicone, couple of crescent wrenches, and many, many leftover and "it'dbenicetohave" spare parts most of which fit trailers I've long since sold, fuses of all kinds (except the one that blows), a couple dozen packages of screws, nut, washer, and assorted fasteners and that's about 1/2 of what's in it.

Does that include cable ties?  (I have a bunch of those in there)

... Also old cloth diapers (they make great rags!) and electrical tape & connectors.

Now, if I could just figure out how to get a couple of spare tires and an axle in there ...  :J

I finally went to the discounter/wholesalers and bought a whole toolbox full of necessary tools.  As it was, I was carrying my normal toolbox along - just in case.  I'll take the chance on the cheapie tools - if they break or get stolen, I haven't lost much.

But yeah, I have wire (all gauges), multimeters, fuses, tape, etc..  I have everything I thought I might need ever, and I am still adding to it.

Sure enough, both DD and DW lost a screw out of their eyeglasses on the same trip in tidewater VA - and I had the microscrewdrivers and all to take care of it.  And this was going to be a trip I wasn't going to drag my toolbox along on, but thought better of it at the last minute.

A good but small basic toolkit with the things already mentioned should be all that is necessary.  Anything else, you can probably get at the local wallymart if something breaks.

I carry most if not all of the tools mentioned.  In addition to that I always have a gallon of coolant for my vehicle.  I used to carry a quart of oil but with the new diesel I may have to up that to two quarts, the engine holds 15 quarts!

I also keep a 10 Lb ABC fire extinguisher handy at all times.  Last year on the way back from Disney we pulled into a rest area for a quick break.  Right behind us a carr pulled in with smoke puouring from under the hood.  Before i could tell him not to open it, he popped the hood and pushed it up.  Flames everywhere.  Glad I had the larger size extinguisher

Well, I've got a good supply of tools, duct tape, and velcro and can fix just about anything. One of the things I really covet is my tool box itself, because it's also a small step stool...invaluable on so many occassions.

Another thing no tool box should be without is a good multi-meter. It's great for checking out onboard electrical or electronic problems, as well as power pole problems. I carry both an analog and a digital meter (though the analog one is just short of being retired).

don't forget to have those radiator clamps in all sizes! and pieces of rubber tubing, handy for those leaky pipes, and hoses. a big bottle of tyenol and box of band-aids, too. and a can/bottle opener!

It is a good idea to carry replacement light bulbs for both the interior and exterior of your trailer.

A roll of duct tape, a few bungie cords, a length of rope, a tarp, a hatchet, assorted safety pins and a few cheapie tools. All have come in handy at one time or another. We have a drawer dedicated to these items, of course dh has always got the basic tools in the tv at all times.

I like to carry a ratchet strap. Or two.

I also carry the plus-sign shaped lug nut wrench that has various sizes.

I suggest having some type of air compressor or tank. I burned my compressor a month or so ago, so I got a new Campbell-Hausfeld compressor at Lowe's for around $50. It can be charged by house current, by 12V battery, and even has a power port. Therefore, if I need it, I don't have to string a 12V cord from the cab. The compressor is powered by its own battery. Granted, it is larger, but I like this one better.

When I tow my ATV's, I also carry a 7 gallon air tank, so I can air up a large tire faster.

Jeez--

I've always been comfortable just carrying my little box of tools that I thought had all I would ever need.  Along with a roll of duct tape ('cause if you can't fix it with duct tape, it ain't broke) and some "Outdoor Goop."

After reading these posts, I might have to get a bigger TV, just for the tools. :)

Actually, though, if you don't bring it, at some time you WILL need it.  And I will have to look at my travel box to see what I might need, and don't.  (Gotta find my roll of safety wire...)
