HAPPY BIRTHDAY, AUSTIN BOSTON!!

44 is old?  Maybe it is...in my family, folks die young.

Lemmie see...when I was born,

Ike was president.  Ike had been supreme commander of the allied forces during WWII.  Every president since (except Clinton and GW) served in some capacity in WW II.
Records were made of vinyl, which was a vast improvement over the previous material that could be smashed to bits.
There were no CD's, not even the kind at the bank.  If you had a little cash to invest, you put it in a 90-day notice account.
The number of men that had been in space could be counted on one hand, with four fingers left over.  And he wasn't an American.
Most people in the US had never heard of Vietnam, and even fewer could find it on a map.
The carnage of multiple assasinations had not torn the country apart.
Although the microwave oven had been invented, they were typically the size of a refrigerator and more expensive than a car.
Speaking of cars, it was possible to get brand new cars for under $2,000.
The Ford Mustang wasn't even on the drawing board.
Modest homes could be had for under $8,000.  You still got a 30 year mortgage in order to buy one.
There were no seat belts (and there was plenty of carnage to show for it).
The sleekest jets in the air (really, the only non-military jets in the air) were the Boing 707's.  When was the last time you flew in one of those?  Can't recall how many years ago they retired the last of them.
There were two presidential front-runners.  The vice president, Richard Nixon, was one.  Some unknown senator from Massachusetts was the other.
Ronald Reagan was a democrat.
The smallest computers filled a room.  Ken Olsen was still forming Digital Equipment, with the intention of making computers that mid-size and perhaps even smaller companies could afford.  The very idea that individuals might someday own a computer was more than a decade away.
People who did use computers would frequently double-check the calculations with a slide rule.
Although the video recorder had been invented, they were way too expensive for the typical living room.  And they used inch and a half wide reel-to-reel tapes that cost a fortune themselves.
The audio cassette had been invented, but they were only used in dictation machines.
Color television had been invented, but the networks were all still broadcasting in black-and-white.
When electronic devices stopped working, you simply needed to identify the correct tube and replace it.
Printers were companies that printed books and magazines.

So what else is new?
