Hi out there. We are going to pick up our new Chalet tomarrow. The trailer has double batteries and propane tanks. Thanks to the members of this board,we are aware of some important safety tips concerning towing. We still have some questions. We will probably have a very high tongue to gross vehicle weight ratio for our trip home from the dealer(located about 100 miles away).Do dealers generally provide some sort of ballast to help balance trailers for the "trip home"? What was your experience, on your first trip home, with your trailer?    Thanks

Congratulations on the new Chalet.
I am not aware of any dealers providing any balast for the trip home from the dealer. When we bought our Coleman Niagara, which have the front storage trunk, it was empty for our trip home from Stockton, and we did experience a lot of sway on that trip.
I have heard of people taking their tool box, or other heavy items to create balast in the front trunk.

Good luck on your walk through.

You could take an empty water tank, or gray water tank, and fill it with fresh water at your dealer, and use that for ballast.  8.3 lbs per gallon... adds up quickly.

Congrats, and post pics!

I never heard of a dealer providing ballast.  You should plan on taking your own. :)

I think I understand your question, but...

If you have a HIGH tongue to total trailer weight ratio, this would mean that your tongue is OVERloaded. I think maybe you mean a LOW ratio.

I believe that I'm going to need more weight in the back of the trailer to offset the weight of the dual batteries and propane tanks that are located on the tongue.Normally this should not be a problem because we'll have our cargo to shift,as needed, but there probably wont be much in the trailer for our trip home from the dealer.Maybe we can get the dealer to fill the water tanks.Perhaps that will help make a safer drive home.  Larry,I do think that I got it right.
