Our Boy Scout Troop is going to National Jamboree in July, 2005.  We're looking for campgrounds (possibly with cabins) near Fort A P Hill.  Does anyone know of any?  We'll have 20 boys and 4-8 adults.

I don't remember EXACTLY where A.P. Hill is, but seems to me Westmoreland State Park isn't far from the area, and they have cabins. I do remember seeing signs for Fort AP Hill somewhere around Rt-17 & Rt-301.

Ok...from and ex Army spouse in the Northern Virginia Area...;)
Actually, Westmoreland would be about an hour and a half or so from AP Hill.. AP Hill is closer to Fredericksburg, VA. There is a Fredericksburg KOA thats not bad that is probably about half an hour from AP Hill.

Also, right on AP Hill is :
Camp Opechancanough is a 200-acre tract by Hearns Pond on Fort A.P. Hill. This is a camp site reserved for scouting units such as the Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and Explorers. It is divided into 24 camp sites. Contact (804) 633-8333 for more information.

Not sure if this would work...but it might be worth checking into.

AP Hill did have lodges for groups and some sort of cabins.

Back when our sons were in scouts, we took down a carfull including 2 sons and a nephew.  We tented at the KOA and it was fine - full of troops, some had come a long way in troop buses.  The Jamboree folks don't want you doing that because they charge very high prices for staying for the week at the Jamboree itself.  As I remember, we stayed only one night, but the boys were able to do quite a lot at the Jamboree - especially on merit badges.  It was a good experience.  Eventually all three boys made Eagle.
