The late night set up came from a bad experience we had...

We were staying in a private CG and the people in a PU arrived around midnight with 3 young kids (I'd guess under 8yrs old).  The parents backed in let the kids out and let them run back and forth between the playground and the site screaming.  The parents turned on just about every light they had to see to set up and yelling at each other.  Dh went out to see if he could help as it sounded like they had very little clue as to what they were doing and their response was, "Oh we bothering you".... come on folks, it was after midnight, all our lights were out, no radio or noise from our PU and they were in the site right next to ours.  Did they think they weren't bothering anyone.

I understand that when traveling you may arrive late, but if you have to arrive late, have respect for the other campers.

Lori--you forgot your "tongue in cheek" icon.  People will really think we do that; we're from California after all.:eyecrazy:

Really, we mostly sit around drinking wine, eating baked brie, and discussing whether we are going to join a Pilates class or have gastric bypass surgery to help us get rid of that "extra 15 pounds."

When I heard what you guys do at your rallies it made me want to camp with you all the more.   :eyecrazy:  Now you are saying it isn't true. :(  :yikes:

How wild this thread has turned  :yikes:  I am telling the kids not to read it :):):) Just kidding ...

angelsmom10

I only started this as a means to get pet peeves out in the open and it sure has gone places that I didn't intend.:eyecrazy:

Don't you love PUT, we always  take threads where we want to go ? Or do we want to go there ? naaaa, it was just a temporary sideway trip :)

I agree with those who say, "I pay to rent a site when I use it and it is "mine" for that period of time."

But since many people nowadays have no common sense and lack decent manners, it is UP TO THE PEOPLE IN CHARGE OF THE CAMPGROUND to enforce rules so that people want to return there for future visits.  And if they are not posting rules clearly and not going the next step to require campers to abide by them, then you need to make sure they do not shirk their duty with this.  They took your money and they owe you pleasant use of your campsite in return!

People know when they come to your home as a guest there are certain unspoken  rules of expected behaviour( for instance--they dont pee on the potted plant in your lving room or let their kids jerk Grandma's wig off her head:J)     and it should be this way at a campground

.....and after a group campout where much, much fun was had, the group will want to be able to come back to that particular campground. ;)  :D  :eyecrazy:  :yikes:  :-()      Just another reason why some campground courteousness should be followed.   :D

:banghead:  YOU OWE ME FOR A 5 FOOT HIGH FICUS TREE!! :swear:

Hmmm, I'm beginning to be suspicious now of what happened to  Grandma's  wig, too --one o the nieghbors described a man leaving our house with BIG BLONDE HAIR!  Was that also you?

Oh yeah, hiking, granola, earth muffins...that's us. :D   Except recent studies show granola is not good for you so we do prefer Subway now :p

Nancy--all teasing and joking aside (hush, Birol ;) )  you have started a really important thread for this time of year because we can all stand to be reminded of these things as the season opens for camping in many places--especially the safety concerns.

We were visiting last summer in a cg with speed bumps and some kid in his cute little sports car went flying over the bumps like they werent even there and almost hit a toddler on a trike who wobbled onto the roadway.  it was scarey for a few seconds!  And while I really think the kid in the car was a jerk, I also think the toddler's mama might have kept a closer eye on him.

So this thread does make us all stop and think for a minute of the things we need to be aware of as well as the things we wish fellow campers woudl do (or not do)

Thanks, Nancy. :)
