I know it doesn't sound right  :screwy:

Turkey signed an international agreement (today) which enables foreigners (That is you  :-() ) to adopt Turkish children which are in need of a family.

Until now, it wasn't possible to adopt a Turkish child by any means. This new Agreement allows children to have chance to be adopted by a loving family from another country (Agencies who care for children who don't have parents are full of them, and the adoption rate by Turkish families is not very high)

Of course they will make sure that the family is socially in an acceptable situation, have enough income to take care of the child, and have to go through the legal process.

The good news is there is no requirement to pay an adoption fee. I know, that remains to be seen, but there is no legal fee required to be paid to any government agency, also any agency who puts a potential family in touch with the Turkish agencies can not charge for their services.

OK, those of you  who knows someone who wants to adopt from abroad  or thinking about it, tell them to go for it  :!  Turkish children are way too cute :) Oh well, at least some of them  :yikes:

And here I thought one of his kids was driving him nuts and he was ready to adopt them out!  LOL

On a more serious level....I have two co-workers who have adopted foreign children. One adopted two little girls from Russia, the other a little boy from Kazakhstan. The children now have wonderful homes and the parents are ...well, just like all of the rest of us doting parents.  ;>   I hope this opens up a chance for even more adoptive children and the potential parents to have happy lives.

Some  years ago we spent 5 days in Istanbul and toured the nearby area.  Turks are a very handsome people and the children we saw (they were everywhere, of course) were really unusually beautiful.  There was a certain dignity, even in those we saw who were obviously poor.

Birol, we were there  in the late 70's--early 80's.  It was the year after the students were shot  on the square within view of the Interconti  (friends were visiting and saw it happen from their hotel room)  We went the next year and there were armed troops riding around in the back of trucks, long lines at gas stations forming the day and night before, and soldiers holding Thompson machine guns standing in front of businesses.  The businesses were not BANKS, but were GROCERY STORES!  Topkapi was still in hideous condition.  It was a very tough time there economically--street beggers were common--and yet we found everyone warm and friendly and the crowds in the Souk were also very . pleasant.

long ago a family friend said she'd mortgage everything she owned to pay someone if they could succcessfully put her kids in a state of suspended animation from the ages of 12 to 21  :J

I think anyone who has ever had a teenage daughter knows what she meant ;)
