Quote from: NightOwllong ago a family friend said she'd mortgage everything she owned to pay someone if they could succcessfully put her kids in a state of suspended animation from the ages of 12 to 21 :J

I think anyone who has ever had a teenage daughter knows what she meant ;)
One of mine is 21 and she's still with us.  She's the worst one.:eyecrazy:

My MIL raised 2 boys and because both DH and I have worked full-time, MIL had the kids on and off and she even admits boys are definitely easier to raise.:yikes:

DD is 11.5 and (konck on wood) still going strong ! We are very careful with her choice of friends, and talk with her on a daily basis.

We are guilty of sort of ignoring DS and recifying the situation ....... Thought he was out of the woods, not so !

And, NO ! they are not up for adoption !  :compumad:  :compumad:  :eyecrazy:

Mine are only 8 and 10, but they have learned a lot of bad stuff at school... Next year they are going to a private Christian school... I  already speak to both of them about tons of stuff I did not know until I was much older... I do find it funny that many people "talk" to their teenage daughters but not the sons.... I think if the boys were talked to also we would not have to warn our daughters so much about the boys.:) I also have a 16 year old step daughter... ( whole other world)!!:):)

I talked to DS about "IT" in an appropriate way, but unfortunately ignored his academic and social side ..... he was an excellent kid , excellent manners ! he still had acceptably good manners around us, but I was getting some vibes (I am good that way, I can read a persons soul). I have been pestering him about stuff, and recently all hell broke loose !!! First he got suspended for three days for horse playing at school, and then the issue with that girl, and he fessed up that she called her the "B" word (Not at that instance though, weeks earlier), and I had to sign his half mid term report card with three Non satisfactory marks on behaviour, and one not turned over home work (A big zero), few 45's and so on, and he is so smart !

Now he is back working his ... off trying to recover from his big fall ! His report card came yesterday and looked much better than the temporary one I saw all Excellent's few good on behaviour and participation. Average 87, which sucks ! But he is working at it and we are talking a lot more about everything. I think he doesn't want to drive with dady on another Friday afternoon for four hours !  :yikes:

He knows what we think about other girls ...... Rules which apply to DD also apply to him ! DD liked the purity ring idea  :p Now I have to cough up the dough for it  :-()

Larry : I sure will do so, one I can get to the information, good old Turkey, no one knows anything as usual  :compumad:

Purity rings are supposedly made of Gold (high karat (sp?)) so they would not be cheap, probably 100 bucks or so I would risk to guess. What concerns me is, my DD is puny :):):) and she is going to grow and we will have to buy more of them, oh well, it will make her stronger and will reiterate her values to her ! We will check some stores tonight with her :)

Acts 2:38 girl

You could get her a size or two bigger, then get one of those little adgusters they make (the store will know what I'm talking about) that fits inside the ring so you don't see it.  Then as she gets older she can remove it so it still fits perfectly!

Both of our DD's went to private (Catholic) schools all their life.  Don't bet the books on trouble, it's just gets squashed.  The youngest DD had mostly boys during grade school (80-90% boys) and by the time the kids were in high school there were only about 4 who hadn't been in trouble with the law.

Don't get me wrong, we are strong advocates of private education, but don't expect miracles.

Oh I know, I was in a private school for 6-8th grades... Let me tell you we were worse  then the public school kids!!! I think they thought we would be fine on a bus 4 hour bus trip, or a trip to to the ocean.... Well we still were "bad" and got in to trouble,  I do find  at this school here is that there are no bully's , no swearing( zero tolerance), smaller classes 14 kids per classs they have up to 27 in public school here!Better over all system... At least for us.:)

Acts 2:38 girl

We have a son in private school too.  It's not that we expect him to be so much more well behaved than public school kids.  Our oldest son is the sort who, while a bit independant, can be swayed easily.  We knew this from a young age, which is why we homeschooled him for Kindergarden, and then put him in a Christian school.  If he's going to be swayed at all, we want it to be for God, some good purpose.  Even his teacher said, "He's a leader, he needs a good foundation"  As soon as we can manage it, the other two will be in there with him.  It is a sacrifice to our finances, but who cares?   We are trying to "raise up our children in the way they should go, so when they are old they will not depart from it"  Money will always be spent somewhere, and I want to spend it on the foundation of my children.  At this age (8-9) it seems they grow leaps and bounds spititually, and I'm thankful I see a difference.

Andrea - who didn't even realize she had gotton the soap box out, never mind got up on it!  :-()
