Have you ever had your PU break down on the road?

Have you ever had your PU break down so that you couldn't tow it? :yikes:

Never had a problem that prevented safe towing.

A few things that help:

* Keep tire pressure up, and replace old/cracked/worn tires.
* Clean and repack bearings annually.
* Clean & inspect hitch, and lube/don't lube as you are convinced.
* Keep electrical contacts clean and in good condition.

Oh, I almost forgot:

* Tow a (relatively) new trailer ;)

Has a flat tire in Toccoa, GA.  Couldn't get the jack under the PU to raise it high enough to change the dang thing.  If you're ever going to have a breakdown, do it in Toccoa.  Some of the nicest people we've ever met.  I think most of the town stopped by to offer to help.  A van carrying a church group even stopped not to mention the nice policeman who also spent some time chatting.  One man even gave us his phone number in case the guy who was supposed to come fix it didn't show up.

You know, there are just lots of nice people out there :D .

I would take this poll if I weren't worried about invoking the PU Gods' wrath.  Nuff said. My lips are sealed! :)

Never had the popup break down,
but had my '93 Ford Exploder blow a head gasket coming home.
Luckly it died one mile from our house, so I had my neighbor show up to take the popup and the family home, while I went with the tow truck and Exploder to my mechanic.

Just glad there isn't that much that can go wrong with a PU.

Wojo (for those who remember him) had left on a w/e trip and went to pull out of a side street and got t-boned in the PU.  Needless to say, there wasn't much left to get towed away.  The sad part was the PU was only about a year old and they picked up a lot of their belongs, took them home, came back to scavenger for more and other people also stopped and did some scavengering for themselves.

We had a new tire get a hole in it and go flat, while traveling south on I-95 in Maine.  Something put a hole the size of a pencil in the new tire and I learned that the tread will separate from the side wall real quick.  I started to change the tire and a nice truck driver stopped and did it for me.  He wouldn't even let me pay him for his time. :)

We have never had any problems with our popup but | remember a trip with my parents when I was a kid.  We had a 21 ft tt and a Dodge Van.  My parents had 8 flat tires (all at different times), a timing chain that broke and me falling down an embankment (while dad was changing a flat) and needing to go to the ER. Yes, we had a spare tire but only one.   We were gone for only 3 weeks but luckily we ran into a bunch of nice people.  My funniest memory of this trip was when the timing chain broke and a tow truck came to pick us up not realizing we had a trailer too.  So he hooked up the van (trailer still attached) and towed us to a CG, unhooked the trailer and towed the van to the mechanic (All on a 4th of July holiday weekend).  What a sight we were going down the road.:yikes:

I vividly remember a trip as a kid (I was maybe 10) when my family was on the way from Chicago to Northern Wisconsin with the PU in tow.  Wheel blew out or something like that.  Had to sit by the side of the road a while.  Can't remember how we got somewhere to get a new tire, probably left it on the shoulder while we drove the car for it. Luckily we haven't had any mishaps with ours!
