To get away from her bloodsucking grandchildren, who all through school were always hitting her up for fundraisers, and after that they were always looking for "loans" to buy cars, houses, and the like.  Since she was greedy, and since there was no convenient bridge, anbd since property values were lower on the far side of the river and the woods, she figured she would keep more of her money if she moved.  So she did.
