considering buying a used trailer, but want to avoid a major hastle. question is, for maryland and penn each, what is the requirements for a title? do those states even title a popup of a given weight?

thanks,

tlhdoc

In PA PUs have a title.  You need to go to a notary and in front of the notary  both the buyer and seller have to sign the title to transfer it.  Sales tax is collected and you need a license plate. :)

Well, in case your interested... Virginia has titles too, but all ya gotta do is sign the title. Having a bill of sale (hand written works) would be a good idea too, might speed things up a little, but at DMV the only thing they look at is the title...

Here's the deal. already been through the hastle of a title fight with the Virginia DMV. bought a camper form out of state, a state that does not title trailers under 5,000 gvrw. don't want to re-live that one! got a line on a trailer in MD (hence the question on MD titling), lady says they never bothered to register the thing in MD since they moved from PA, hence the PA question. smelling major problems here, but just wanted to get a good read on them before I bite.

Ah yes, I remember this. I now follow you're question!!! Ignore my last (at least I was right, Virginia looks only at the title!!!!)

This strikes me as another good reason to register your trailer, even if your state doesn't require registration.  Selling it to someone across state lines might be easier.

Maryland requires a title, and they should have retitled it when they moved.  I assume this means they still have a Pennsy plate on it too?  Your rules would probably be Pennsylvania.
