We are new to Ga., sorta.  Been gone for approx. 30 yrs.  Have been doing a lot of camping in Va with Popup Times group.  Living in Lake Sinclair area (Milledgeville). Would like camp ground recommendation(s) and any camping club or group info. Thanks

Jim,

I am in the process of moving to GA, but chose north of Atlanta.

The most active group in GA is the Yahoo Georgia Campers group.

Georgia used to be very active in Southeast Pop Up Campers, but the group disolved.  Randy (YellowXterra) picked up the domain and is trying to get folks together.

Other than those two, I don't know of any other active groups in Georgia.

Now, when we were there last week looking for houses we took a ride around Lake Altoona...  Lots of campgrounds.

I can tell this is going to take me a while discovering all GA has to offer.  Plus, on top of GA, FL/TN/KY are all close by.

Florida has an extremly active group, Florida Pop Up Campers.  The have a scheduled trip every month and many times are in north Florida.  In July they have a week long trip to Little River Campground (where the Pop Up Times "cult" was born).

TPUC also has several active camping members from the N GA area. //www.tpuc.com

USNRET-- welcome to Georgia!  You may enjoy trying some of the CG's in the mountains--a nice change frome the flatter terrain where you are.  We havent actually camped in Georgia yet (I can scarecely believe it!) although we have been in several of the parks and seen their campground facilites.  Check online for info on  Unicoi St Park, Fort Mountain (gorgeous area!)  and Moccasin Creek.  They are all very nice and there are loads of others which you may find in some of the CG reviews.

And  Tim will soon be an expert on all of them just as he was on the ones in the mid-Atlantic states.   He is very thorough and if he recommends an area, you can believe whatever he says about it!

Don't forget SC state parks.  They are also close by and beautiful.  That being said, GA has the most consistently beautiful and well-cared for state parks we have stayed at.  Also, try the COE campgrounds.  GA, like SC, has it all.  We are a couple of hours from the beach and the mountain and have numerous lakes in between.  All making for some great camping.  Enjoy.

Jim,
Did you retire from teaching also?
OR have you just advanced your career in teaching. I know at one time you were selling out and moveing. Glad to see you settled in and kept the camper
