Great and quiet place. Springs are fantastic. Dad and I have stayed there last 2 years for speed weeks at Daytona. May or may not see any Manatee this time of year, but these are beautiful springs. And can get to daytona beach in a jiffy. Facilities there are very well kept. Hope you enjoy. Take good bug spray, and watch out for thunderstorms.

Woodthumb... how did you like Blue Springs/July 4th? We just got back from there 2 days ago. I have the good and the bad, in my opinion.
The Bad: 1)The mosquitoes were horrendous after sunset. I have about 50 bites on my legs even after using bug spray and burning citronella.
2) Some idiot left the bathroom door propped open & taking a simple shower became a major challenge. As soon as I got out of the shower the %&@ mosquitoes were there! I couldn't even dry off - I had to run wet and practically naked to my pop-up! 3) No beer or wine is allowed at state parks. If I choose to relax in the great outdoors with a glass of wine or have a couple of beers and I know I can't, well, that's a problem. The Florida law prohibiting alcohol at state parks is ridiculous!

The Good: The springs were a nice retreat from the record warm temps. The water was cold, clean and the boardwalk was newly constructed. Nice walk beneath the giant sable palms, etc. Beautiful scenery! The stairs leading down to the water were convenient and easy to enter the cold water. The campsites are very private, secluded and they include a fire ring. Diving the springs looked promising; we only snorkled at this time. The camp rangers were friendly and accomodating. The price for 2 nights, with elect & water, was fair.

Bottom line: Don't go there when it's mosquito season, close the damn bathroom door and pour your beer in a plastic cup.
