Well here are some photos and even a movie thrown in for good measure. The movie has to be seen to get the funny. If you were at the rally last year all the better. It is in a .AVI format (quicktime, sorry I don't know how to convert to Real or Media)

In a nut shell, the camper is not bad. The canvas needs some TLC and replacement within a year or so. The roof is better than it seems at first. The interior panels on the roof are shot (normal home paneling) But above that is styrofoam insulation and then the roof skin. The wavy roof is not from rotted wood, but the interior panels. Briol and I went into great detail about the fix for this, and after talking with him I am sure he can do the repairs. If it can be done, the new roof interior panels will be retained at the edges with crown molding! The real decision will be wether or not the wood edging goes out far enough from the sides. It would be awesome if that can be done (canvas is on the bottom edge of the roof sides, not the top.) The interior is decent enough, no damage other than the seat cusions. One table is missing, but the camper has 2 (against each bed pull out, seats on each side of camper) The stove & sink are "ginger" but look quite nice All the cabinets are solid, but old school. The sink could use a street preasure set up as it is tank water only. The hole in the rear was where the electrical used to be, I gave Briol a new plastic wall bos & outlet. He will put a outside outlet cover on it and then will just need to make a pigtail with 2 male ends on it to plug in the camper. The floor is rock solid, lift has been ingeniously replaced with a boat winch (nice job & great idea) The tires are like new with no dry rot. We repacked his bearings & hubs got a couple major lights fixed and he was good to go. All in all, it was a good buy, and a great starting point. I will look forward to seeing it getting fixed up. Good luck buddy!

Ok ya all.. see if you can view this.. it is in Quicktime.

www.yankeetoys.org/lee/cleaner.MOV (that is Briol in the camper)

I just "right clicked" on it and saved it to my desktop and I got it to open in Real.. Try that if you have problems..

Lee, thanks for the pictures, had no problem watching the movie :#

You know, if I click on the link, it will not open. I can save as and view it.. Strange. I can view it localy off my computer with Quicktime though. The photos without dates ar Briols.. I hijacked his flash card and read it thru my fax/printer and saved his photos before he left.

Nice pictures and great movie....  Birol looked like a kid on Christmas morning:)

BTW, that boat winch in NOT an ingenious replacement, that's the way the old Starcrafts were all made. My Dad's 1965 (same unit as Birol's), and both my 74 and 78 units all that that boat winch set-up!

As for the trailer itself, I have the 1978 manual, and can tell you for a fact that the Starmaster8 (which is what he has, they may have called it something else in 1965) is in this manual. My 1978 was an almost identical unit to my Dad's 1965 unit. I'll try and get my hands on it and copy it and send it to Birol snail mail.

Mine was also missing a table, but it was easy enought to make one, one half sheet of 3/4" particle board, on half sheet of Pionite (Formica) and some glue, a couple of pieces of hardware and you're done.

As for ceiling panels, I'd recommend a product called Sani-lite, it's a fiberglass reinforced plastic panel about 1/8" thick, but extremely tuff stuff.

I had no problem just clicking on the movie to view it.

I love those shots of Birol with that big huge grin on his face!!!

Thank you Lee and Andrea for taking the time with our good friend and making sure everything was good to go for his ride home.

I'm sure with a little elbow grease and a lot of love, Birol will have no problem making his "new" camper truly shine as bright as his smile does!

Gone-Camping

The movie wouldn't actually work for me when I clicked the link, but once I saved it and then tried to run it from the hard drive, it determined something was changed in the file structure, asked to be fixed which I clicked yes, then it played the video just fine!

BTW, in that last image from Lee where you see the door side of the trailer attached to the Windstar, that bracket between the door and the rear of the trailer is so you can set-up the table outside!!!

Firefyter-Emt

Well Cliff.. Starcraft "may" of used a design similar.. BUT, this is a boat winch made to work.. The cable has 2 cable clamps and new bracketry has been welded to the hitch as well and the boat winch welded to the brackets..

Great photos of the stripped out roof!! I am sure Briol will like seeing them! The roof looks like it will be really easy to fix. There is not really any rot on the wood sides. Gee, I kinda wish my pop-up was that big. Man, with the shop I have at home now, I could do sooo much. Strip it bare and re-build the inside from floor up! Sigh.

Well, that is a new winch in the picture, but basically the same thing they use anyway! The original winch would have been located probably about where the propane bottle is, but underneath of it. The handle would slip through a hole in the frame! It was still a boat winch! In 1965 it was simpler than the one on my 1978, but basically about the same thing!

Hmmm, Lee, how come you didnt install some neon chaser lights  on that thing for him?  ;) :J

The pics are just wonderful fun to look at even tho I cant download the movie.

I want to tell you, you and Andi are incredible people. :#    I like to think that Briol has returned home  with a feeling of relief and  pride in himself for finding a good, solid PU for such a decent price, and a heart full of gratitude for your help and kindness.   And of course, when he gets home, he will be able to dance The Dance of Joy with his family.   :-()  :-()  :-()

Some people just  talk about their faith, and some people LIVE IT--you-all are the latter kind and it sure is a privilege  to  be on the same  board with you  :!

Thanks.. It was no problem getting him going.. My problem with today is my office threw me a curveball. I, who have been dead slow with files in my territory in Worcester, Mass (25 miles from home) and have been only doing maybe 5 a day got 8 today.. I was all over central Mass  and within 5 miles of NH!! If you want to look on a map of Mass., I was in Northbridge, Uxbridge, Worcester, Holden, Clinton, Leominster & Phillipston!  When Briol arrived at my house in CT I was just getting ready to leave my last stop. 70+ miles from home!! I could not believe my run.. Now don't get me wrong, I need the work and am greatful, But geesh!! I had to go to Phillipston, MA. I have not been there in a year! Tomorow, 12 files in East Boston!! Woo Hoo. Gotta tune up my "Beantown driving skills" Gonna be one long day, Plus I have some weird files to look at.. (for those who don't know, I am an Insurance appraiser) On top of the typical cars, I have a school bus, a Class A motor home, and a F-450 Dump truck. Then again, I saw a super strech limo that hit a moose today. :yikes:

I felt bad to leave poor Briol to twiddle his thumbs for an hour for me to get home. Lucky he was running late too, or it would of been even longer.
