Folks,

Just can't seem to get in the camping mood. Lost my best camping buddy last Friday (Sparkle) after a long fight with old age. She held on as long as she could. I will miss her. Have a camping trip this long weekend and just can not seem to get ready. In fact I just do not want to go.

It seems like I lost part of my heart.

You must have really had a lot of fun with your camping buddy! We've never taken our dog camping ( we already have 4 little "animals" tagging along!!) , but when I see people with thier dog (or cats) it looks like a lot of fun. A lot of people just tie up thier dog outside every day and leave them, but yours must have had the most interesting life. Thank you for being such a good pet owner. I bet somewhere out there, there is a little guy just dying to become a camping buddy to somebody. Maybe it's something to think about.

I am so sorry to her that you've lost your friend.  Those furry four footed friends and family members are just as loved and wonderful as the two leggeds in our lives, and it hurts when they are gone.  It does sound as if you have wonderful memories of Sparkle, and keeping those in your heart will help keep her close.

I am so sorry to hear about your loss. Give it time...her memories will help carry you through.

Sorry to hear that you don't feel like camping, I understand where you are coming from. I still remember my dog I had as a child and how sad I was when I learned that it was ran over by a truck :(

With Milo around, I am having fun though, are you considering getting another friend ? It might help more then you think ....

Sorry to hear of your loss.  I can't imagine what we'll be like when it will be time for ours.  I'm sure it's hard, but maybe getting away from everything may help a little even though he used to go with you.

I'm so sorry.  Pets are a part of most of our families yet their time with us is so short.  Sounds like Sparkle had a long happy life which is the most any dog (or human for that matter) could ask for.  Someone here made a scrapbook of his camping Golden Retriever partner when she died.  He said it really helped with the grieving, and the happy memories from looking over the pictures made him feel much better.

Everyone's grief process is different.  Some people prefer to get a new pet before the older one dies, some want to go right out and replace it, and others aren't ready for a year or more.  Just do whatever is right for you.

Whitestar - how did it go?  Did you end up going?  Just wondering how you fared.:)

Acts 2:38 girl ,

No I did not go camping, but I did something better. I got a new camping friend from the Cocker Adoption Center here in Maryland. Her name is Bailey and she is 5 years old. She is a little sweet thing. I will always remember Sparkle but it is time to move on. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of you for your kind words and support when I needed it.

Congrats on you new friend.

Congratulations on having a Bailey (pun intended :))  I hope she will like camping a lot and be a good friend.

Forgot to mention, our middle dog (beagle) is also named Bailey.

Miss-Teri

Congratulations!  I'm so glad you chose to adopt!  :)

Oh Whitestar..I'm so happy to hear that you and a new furry friend are now helping each other out. You giving them such a wonderful home and the lucky pooch now getting to enrich your lives too.  Best of luck to you and I hope Bailey enjoys camping as much as Sparkle did!  :>
