How many of you made your first camping trip this Memorial Day weekend?  We camped at a State Park about 85 miles from home this weekend. It rained just about all weekend on and off but we managed to still have a good time. Today (Memorial Day) it was supposed to rain again around noon so we started packing up our wet camper as soon as we got up. By the time we got everything packed up the sun was starting to peek through the clouds - go figure. I got to try out my new BAL leveler for the first time this weekend, it works great.
When I got home I set the camper up to let the canvas dry out because there was a fairly nice breeze and it was partly sunny. While it was set up I restocked most everything that we used this weekend. It didn't take to long and the canvas was all dry, about an hour or so, so I closed it up again and just in time. It was only about 10 minutes after I got is all closed up when it started to rain again.
I hope everyone that went camping this weekend had a good time and that you all got home safely.  Now to get ready for the next trip out.

We were camping too, but had great weather until the rain started Monday morning.  This was our fourth trip of the year. :)

It wasn't my first trip of the season, but I did go out Memorial weekend. (first trip was spring break)
We went to Eufaula lake in eastern Oklahoma. Saturday morning we packed lunch in the boat and headed out to an island for an afternoon of swiming and fun. The storm clouds snuck up on us and trapped us on the island for an hour. When we got back to camp we found out that we were under a tornado warning.
My next camping purchase will be a hand held weather radio.
Other than the storm, it was a great weekend.

We got our first camping of the season this past Memorial Day. We stayed at Mongaup St park in Liberty, N.Y. It rained when we were packing up on Friday morning and then cleared for the rest of the weekend. The only downside to the clearing weather was the cold front that came along with it. 20mph winds and temps in the 50's. Night time temps got down into the 30's. We were right off the lake so it certainly got cold. Thank God we remembered to bring our goose down vests.

We still had a great time. You know the saying, "a bad day camping is better than a good day at work."

Well...we didn't camp this year for our Spring Vacation that we always take around the Memorial Day Holiday. We waited too late to get a camp site anywhere we wanted for 10 days that included the Memorial Day period. We finally rented a house on the river that we had rented last year and loved. It was for 10 days of rest, relaxation, fishing, hiking, and anything else we felt like doing...fishing off our own little dock on the river, sitting on the deck that hangs out over the water drinking coffee in the morning...listening to the sounds of the country instead of hearing a zillion people and cars...  It was nice...... but we realized one very important thing....now that we have our PU we're awfully stuck on having camping vacations!  We had fun....but we missed camping so much!!!  We ended up visiting every campground we could find within driving distance of where we were and taking pictures for future reference.  We were on Skyline Drive or the Blue Ridge Parkway a couple of times in the evening and ended up just driving through a couple of campgrounds with the sun roof open and the windows rolled down just to get the campfire smell....LOL....  It's official...we're addicted to camping......

Our first trip of the season is coming up this weekend.  As much as my DH has grumbled that we haven't gotten out yet, the last 2 weekends have had nasty weather so we're just as happy that we weren't out in it!  Major thunderstorms & tornado watches/warnings are not good for camping!  Let's just hope this weekend is better weather-wise.

Ours wasn't a "trip" exactly, since we didn't go far from home.  In fact, since the place we went was our own property I guess you could say we were home.  But, we had a great time, got up early and put the cowboy coffee pot on the fire and sat and watched the sun rise, listened to the birds and sipped the coffee in quiet and peace.  Friends were with us, and the guys went off into the woods and did "guy stuff" looking for deer and animal signs, and we girls just relaxed.  Went to a small pow wow, layed around and read, sometimes just stared off into space (my favorite activity).  It was wonderful, and I'm looking forward to the next 'trip'.
