Revisiting AAA vs Good Sam

I have done a search on AAA here at PUT. But I don't feel like my questions were answered.

For those of you who have AAA, are you glad you have it? Do you use it a lot? Does it pay for itself (at least $60 per year here, more if associate members and/or RV Plus is added)?

Any Good Sam members that like it better than AAA?

We have the AAA PlusRV coverage.  While we have not had to use it for the pop up, I have used their service several times and I think it has been well worth the money.

The two time I found their service most useful:

Flat tire on the Ohio Turnpike.  The bolt that held the spare tire under the bed of the pick up was rusted on, so I couldn't get the spare tire down.  AAA took care of everything.

Truck stuck in the mud, just off the side of the road.  AAA responded quickly and pulled me out.

The thing to keep in mind is that AAA PlusRV coverage is not offered by every club, so the service may not be available where you travel.  AAA Mid-Atlantic (Maryland/Virginia) does offer it as well as AAA Southeast (Florida/Georgia) so i am covered where I normally camp.

We have never had Good Sams, so I can't compare.

we had both, we chose good sams over AAAplus
they give you more services as far as towing and car services. AAA gives you more travel services, discounts at restraunts, hotels etc. So basically its how you travel is how you buy your plans. we broke down twice in one season blew the tranny on our van while towing, they came with two trucks, took us to the nearest campground put us in a site, took the van to the closest tranny shop, and took ken to the nearest car rental service. they came with in the hour they promised, and they called the campground and got us a site, they called the tranny place, they called for the trucks, and they called us back when all was arranged and told us.
the other thing i like with good sams is the travel planner, you can set it up so you can avoid long upgrades on the roads,  or tunnels were you can't go with  your propane. were its ok to drive with propane on! etc.  it tells you toll roads price of gas in the area, were the nearest campground is to all exits on your route, were the travel centers are. a lot of good stuff.

I have had Good Sams Emergency Road Service for three years now, and had never had to use it, so I was considering dropping it. (Why pay $79 for something I had never used)... Well this past winter I ended up using it FOUR times and now will never not have it! I called the number, and service got there within 30 minutes each time. There was never any question about payment, the guy came and did a great job, and left. All four times they would not take a tip. What really impressed me were the operators when you call. Their first priority was that you're SAFE. They must ask you that 5 times during the conversation. "Are you off the road? Is everyone okay?? Shall I send the police/fire/EMS?? Are you in a safe location?? Is it well lit?? If you're uncomfortable there I will send the police." Then they CALL BACK in 30 minute increments to make sure you are still safe, and to make sure help has arrived. I will have Good Sam ERS from now on without question! I have definitely used more than $79 worth of their services. I am sure the first time I called I exceeded $79... Hope this helped!

I have had Good Sam for the past three years, but fortunately, have never had to use it....It's a bargain at 79.95 a year and has unlimited towing for both TV and trailer.. I switched  from AAA Plus because the price kept going up,$135.00  for TV and trailer and towing limits of 100 miles. They also charge extra for family members, while Good Sam does not...Also, the discounts AAA offers can be found every where these days and one does not need to belong to AAA to get them...I have a friend who has had problems twice while on the road with his motorhome and he is well pleased with the road service he got from Good Sam......

If You Look Into The Extended Medical Plan, That Is Good Too! Its A Bit Pricey @99.00 A Year. But I Feel It Will Be Worth It. If Ken Or I Get Sick They Take Us To The Nearest Hospital, Or Fly Us To A Speciality Hospital If Needed, They Will Drive Your Rv Home If Needed No Matter How Many Miles! If Your In Ca And Live In Ny They Will Drive The Rv All The Way. If You Need A Person To Come Help You, They Will Fly That Person Out To Were You Are. If You Need A Second Opinion They Will Pay For That Too. Plus More.
Its A Piece Of Mind For Us, Ken Is A Diabetic, Plus Has High Blood Pressure , And Has  Stomach Problems, And I Don't Drive.

I have had Good Sam for many years, and only used it for the campground discounts.  Have not had the need for anything else.  Plus they have a gas discount card too.  It is not close to where I live but I'm sure other people get good use of it.

Can't do a comparison with AAA because I have never had them.

We had our first chance to use our GS towing last week and the service from GS was great! Much better than I have experienced with AAA.  When we are on the road, the gas discount at Loves travel stops helps too!

cheers,

OK, Has anyone ever used Allstate? Fortunately we didn't have to use it last year and we just renewed at 89.95 for another year. It is the RV Plan. I hear a lot about Good Sam's  but haven't heard anything about Allstate.
