Hey all - I thought I'd vent here to my PUT family...

Well it has been two years since our beloved 14yo Husky "Sheena" has passed on, and we finally felt "ready" to bring a new doggie into our lives...  So last week we searched the shelters and found a little life that seemed to fit well with us.  We give them our information (seems like they do a better background check than my job did when I applied - these people should do anti-terrorism!) and of course everything came back good, and we can have the dog.  "We'll call you on the 1st to tell you which shelter she'll be at and you can pick her up on Friday the 4th".  So we go out and buy all new doggie stuff - leashes, toys, food, and a cool big pillow thing with pine trees, moose, and outdoor scenes that (of course) matches the inside of the PU.  This was to be her PU camping bed.  Well we get NO phone call on the 1st, which sets off my "some s**t ain't right" radar.  To make a long story short, copcargirl calls today, and they gave the dog to someone else.  I get this phone call at work today with a VERY distraught copcargirl on the other end, and of course I have 4 criminals around me while I am doing their intake paperwork, so I have to keep my happy face on.  We are SO hurt by this, we have a big trip planned June 10 - 13 and were looking forward to going camping and seeing how the doggie liked her new PU bed...  I know we'll find another dog to love, but man does this stink.

Oh man that sucks !!!!!! I know how you felt ! We went throught the same thing ourselves, we were promised one Chi, and they gave it to someone else under our nose. I raised such a  stink they arranged us to get Milo from Buffalo. Favorism at its best when it comes to this kind of stuff I guess.

I hope you find another one you like soon.

I'm so sorry. Hang in there. It took me months to find our Chihuahua through rescue - every time I found a dog online that I thought was right for our family, somebody else kept beating me to it, until we got lucky and found her. She was sure worth the wait. I sent so many e-mails and made so many calls the rescue people got to know me pretty well, and after a while, they were calling me before they even listed a dog online - I think it really helps if the rescue people get to know you and feel comfortable you before you even find a dog. I even had our home check done by another agency before I filled out an application for our Chihuahua - I think that really helped too, since it saved a lot of time and nobody else was able to nab her in the meantime. Good luck.

Sorry to hear about them giving the dog to someone else.  I'm sure you'll find another one.

Bummer Dude    :(

Keep looking... Trooper fell into our family totally by chance, so maybe a spin of the karma wheel will net something good for you and copcargirl as well.

Good Luck, and maybe Trooper will have a buddy to visit with at North Lake  :D

What a huge disappointment!  Lets hope Jazman is right with the Karma thing and that the dog that is right for you guys is on it's way to you somehow!

Rick I am so sorry that you didn't get the dog.  I hope you find another dog soon. :)

I wish you lived closer to me.  I could find you a perfect match at our rescue - and NOT give it to someone else out from under you!  :(

We get so many dogs from shelters here, unfortunately - and there are so many that can't be saved.  There is even a very rare fullblood Finnish Lapphund in a shelter in north Oklahoma that they've asked us to take, but it's just impossible to find room for them all.  While we do turn a lot of people down, homes like yours (a previous long-lived, obviously very loved pet, and wanting the dog to go camping with you and be part of the family) are an easy approval.

Good luck on try #2!

copcarguy

Miss-Teri - where do you live??  If it's not too far we may take you up on your offer.  "Far" to us is over 800 miles, anything under that is a day trip. :eyecrazy:   We would like a female, short-ish hair, medium size around 50 pounds, and most of all something that we can save and give a good home to.

angelsmom10

I believe she's from Oklahoma.

Too bad we aren't close enough, a few weeks ago in Northern KY, they did a 2nd raid on a "hoarder" who had over 50 dogs in her house.  They were all taken to area shelters to be checked by vets, fed and gotten weight put back on them, then they'ed be up for adoption.  They were hoping that people would respond and give the dogs a good home

Miss-Teri

Yes, we are in Oklahoma.  Our website is //www.petsandpeople.com .  There are quite a few that don't even make it on the website, though, before they're adopted.  There are sooo many homeless pets here.  I watch Animal Precinct in New York and I see all these dogs that get adopted from their humane society that wouldn't have a chance out here - makes me really, really wish we could get to that point.  Seems to be the coastal regions that don't have as much of an overpopulation problem - probably partially due to not as many puppy mills and partially because people don't seem to consider their pets as disposable there as they do here.

The farthest-away adoption I've done is someone I "knew" from an animal message board who lives in Vancouver Island, Canada.  She flew out to Dallas and I met her at the Oklahoma/Texas border where we did the adoption of a precious black fullblood Pomeranian puppy (yes, from a shelter).  That dog just has the best life now - goes everywhere with her and is spoiled rotten!

birol

I thought courtesy of Finally would implicate that it is free :):):) If you come to the rally you get it :) Free :) Otherwise I will personally bring it to you when we visit Ohio !
