I hope transport works ...... If I were in USA, I would just charge copcarguy my actual expenses and transport Sabrina all the way ......

Come on guys/gals, lets get this going ....

Wow I haven't looked at this thread for a while.  If there is anything I can do to help just ask. :)

Hey all!!

I would like to thank everyone for their help. I think flying her up here would be the best (and easiest) method of transport, as well as the least stress on Sabrina... Not to mention, we'll have our new family member the same day!! I am hoping she can be up here for some part of our big 4 day trip planned to the Newburgh KOA June 10-13.

WE ARE SO PSYCHED!!

Miss-Teri: I had hoped for you to email me your phone number so we can get all the technicalities and paperwork done... As soon as I am done typing this, I'll send you out an email with all our info. I am hoping we can fly her into Stewart International Airport in Newburgh, NY or as a second choice Albany International Airport in Albany, NY. If it has to be a NYC airport we'll drive the 100 miles down to there, but I really would not want to. I know you're going away soon also and I am hoping you can get Sabrina on a plane for us before you go. I'm babbling here, so I better just send you an email now.... :D

DiW: I was under the impression that you liked us and that we camped a lot together because you thought we were cool. Now I see we need to bribe you guys with a dog... lol Actually, we have "borrowed" my sisters dog the past 2 or 3 camping trips. You missed out. lol

MammaMia: we agree - Yippee!!!

birol:  You're the man for getting the ball rolling...

angelsmom10: Thanks for offering to drive her...

Thanks again to everyone (I hope I didn't miss anyone - it's kinda late as I'm typing this) and maybe this story could make it into the next issue of PUT. Tracy - aren't you a writer for PUT?? >>HINT<< ;)

I live in the southwestern corner of VA between Tennessee and WVa so I might be able to help with some of the transportation if you decide on a relay!

I'm starting to get new dog fever myself! I'm hoping Bitsy Bugle is around for a lot more years, but she's 12 1/2 now and starting to show her age. I keep thinking a new dog might help keep her more active (she really seems to enjoy it when I take her camping & to the races with me 'cause she has more to see and do), but she's been an "only" dog for a long time. Candie, my cockapoo died in '96, and Bitsy's been the only dog in the house since then. Not sure how she'd like a new "sister".

I've been visiting Petfinder.com almost daily and I've seen several that I really like.

Good luck, copcarguy! Let me know if I can help!

I have been looking at Sabrina's picture for the 2 millionth time and it just hit me - who is that little girl holding her??  LOL

You have to produce your own children, they do not give the children away  :yikes:  :p  :p  :p

Check out the cost for both airports and maybe with short notice, you can get a decent rate.

I hope you can get her in time for your trip.

Maybe you can pick her up on your way out.

Knowing how rescue agencies work (more or less now I do), I think their trip is too early to get Sabrina. Probably after the trip though ...... And it might be tough on both Sabrina and copcarguy to take him out to a camping trip right after they get her. She needs time to adjust.

Miss-Teri, we are in Dallas/Ft Worth, and have fallen in love with Cheetah!!!!

We are looking for a companion animal for our chow, she misses doggie companionship since her doggie pal moved to Nana's house.  I think Cheetah would be a good friend, as well as someone with more energy to play with the kids.  If she would make a good camping dog, who would love lots of attention from children aged 1-10, and doesn't mind sharing her house with three cats and another dog, we would like to adopt her.  She should also enjoy spending time in the house, as well as some time in our six foot privacy fenced back yard.  I know small children are often a concern, but these children are raised with pets, and are taught proper respect for the animals and how to treat them just like they learn to treat all the other people in the family.

Can you let us know if Cheetah is still there, and if she is at the Yukon shelter?  Is it possible we could adopt her this weekend?  I would be happy to answer any questions etc beforehand.  We are coming to OKC this weekend for a family reunion, so the timing is good if an adoption can be done in a day.

Miss-Teri

Well, copcarguy/girl have a bit of an edge because I trust them.  That might not be smart for someone I only know through the internet, but when he posted that first post about how much they loved their Husky, and how excited they were to be getting another camping buddy before the dog was given to someone else, they had no idea they would be getting a dog through us - so there was no reason to lie.

I also looked at all those pictures, and they REALLY seem to love animals.  Not just them specifically, but those around them as well.  So I feel pretty good about it.

I hope copcargirl isn't too angry with me because I did give her a portion of the potential adopter's spiel, as in, "Are you ready to work through any issues if any arise since it's not going to be easy to bring her back?"  and "She isn't going to be chained up outside all the time, is she?", etc, etc.  I just hafta look after the best interest of the animal, especially when we can't personally check on it.  It sounded to me like she was a little offended that I would EVER think she might do those things - which is a good reaction!  ;)

Startx, I talked to our president and she thinks Cheetah would work great with your lifestyle.  Is the Chow a female?  And is she okay with other female dogs?  Cheetah is in with females and males now and there is no problem, but some of the beloved Chows in my past were very dog aggressive.

We have a dog park on our premises which is open to the public - not sure if the Chow is coming with you, but you can let the dogs get to know each other out at the dogpark if it will be with you.  Also, you can get to know Cheetah at the park (sort of get to know her - sometimes the dogs are so happy to be out they don't give a whole lot of one on one attention to the potential adopters until they get home).

If you come on Saturday, ask for Gail, and if you come on Sunday, ask for Cindy.  I'll also e-mail you with my cell number.  I won't be in town but I will have my cell on me in case you get need directions or get lost.

If you can get a vet reference, it will also facilitate the adoption.  And, with your being so close, if it doesn't work out it shouldn't be too difficult to return her.  I think Cheetah will be so happy to get a home that she will put on her best doggie manners for you though, lol!  As I said in the post to copcarguy, if you get her, be sure to always crate her when you can't watch her until you are POSITIVE you can trust her.  It wouldn't be good to come back to no canvas!

edit:  Oops, I don't see your e-mail.  I think mine is fixed where you can e-mail me, and I'll send you that phone number.

startx

I sent an email to you.  Yes, Babe is a female, but she is not dog aggressive at all, having always been a member of a multi dog household until recently.  She even has been to stay with relatives who have 10 or so dogs and never has aggression with any of them.

I'll keep the crating in mind, and we'll talk to Gail on Saturday most likely.  We are so excited!  The kids are really hyped about getting another dog, they love Babe, but she can't run and play like she used to and they are excited about having a younger dog that can.

copcarguy

WOW guys!  I never would've thought that my original post venting about that other shelter would result in the adoption of two dogs from Oklahoma over 1500 miles away...  How cool is that??

Just to keep everyone up to date, Sabrina is officially ours ("YAY") and has reservations on a flight from Oklahoma City to NYC this Saturday June 12th due in at 3:30pm.  I would like to tell Miss-Teri once again THANK YOU!!  Miss-Teri is making an early morning detour from departing on her Yellowstone trip to make sure Sabrina is safely on the plane enroute to her new family.  We are hoping Sabrina will like us...  LOL!

jazman:  it looks like Trooper will have a new camping buddy at North Lake when we're up there next weekend!!

Seriously - I think we should include this story in the next issue of PUT.  Without PUT this never would've happened!
