My brother in-law who lives in Maine brought his pop-up to a small dealership to have a battery installed over the weekend.

The dealership called him this morning asking if he had picked it up?

Apparently it was stolen off the lot over the weekend.

The sad part is all the equipment that was inside.

Comments: I had my 1999 Jayco Heritage camper stolen on june 6,2004. If
they have not removed the lic plate, the # is 44876B. I am offering a
cash reward on the return of my camper.

It was a Jayco but it was a 2003 and he lives in Maine.

I would think that once you take something to the dealer, he would be responsible for it.

If they didn't have a popup specific insurance policy, tell them they can file for contents on their home owners/renters insurance.  We had a popup stolen, we didn't carry insurance on it, because our carrier said it was too old, and we were new to campers and didn't know better.

However, by the time I itemized all the stuff IN the camper when it was stolen, the insurance paid more for the contents than we had paid for the camper itself.  It was small consolation, but at least it was something.  To this day we miss some of the things we had in that camper, they could be replaced with substitutes, but they aren't the same when they are inherited items.

Sorry to hear about their loss, and we carry insurance, and are much more aggressive in our security measures on the camper now.

My brother just had his Coleman Cheyenne stolen this weekend from his storage facility just north of Cincinnati, Ohio. He dropped it off Thursday and on Saturday it was gone when he returned. He was in the process of cleaning it up to sell to make the move to a TT. I have a description below if anyone runs across this baby camping by any stroke of luck. I'll update the post if I can get more info or a better description.

What is the desire for a stolen camper? What are the odds that it will show up somewhere? Unlike a car, I would think that a popup is mostly junk parts, pressboard, screws and laminate. Committing a felony for a $4k camper that doesn't even have an air conditioner doesn't compute. And the applications seem limited. Lots of people may be interested in a clutch for a Ford F150, but how many people need a galley door for a Coleman Cheyenne? So I'm guessing that chances are good that stolen PUs stay together as a unit. What's been your experience?

At least he has a real good description of their PU.

My Taos was stolen in November. They rolled it out of my yard and put it on a flatbead truck! Who would go to that much trouble for a '99 Taos even if it did look like new!

I've been around for at least 3 years now and this just seems like a rash of stolen PU's... Does anyone else remember so many being stolen
