Has anyone camped in RI? Will be visiting Providence a few times this summer and am looking for a place to camp. Help anyone?

I've never camped around there since my brother lives 15 minutes north of Providence -- we always stayed with him. I have heard good things about a place 30 minutes (or so) north of Providence called Normandy Farms. They are a bit expensive and I don't know if you can get in for just a weekend, but it's worth a try. and they are in a great location.

We have two small children and we love to camp at Wawaloam campground in RI. I don't remember what part of RI it is but I am pretty sure it is not too far from Providence. It gets pretty booked up, and has quite a few seasonals...also has a pool and water slide. Very well kept and pretty quiet for the most part. Let me know how you like it if you go.  We are trying a new campground in CT called Salem Farms. Ever heard of it?? I am nervous, you never know what you will find when you try something new.

Here is the website:

Thanks Laurie. I'll look into it. Someone else recommended Whispering Pines in Hope Valley, RI. Since it's so late, I'm not sure we'll find a spot anywhere but it's worth a try.

Hey Di

We usually camp at Charlestown Breachway SP when we head to RI.  There are no hookups at all, and not even anywhere to get water, so we fill the tanks at home and tow the water there.  There are only flush toilets during the day and NO showers.  The tradeoff is that you are literally on the Atlantic Ocean and the beach is simply beautiful!  You can get a coupon/ticket from the Park Ranger and head down the road to Burlingame SP to dump the tanks, get stuff, etc...

I know Mom & Dad go to Burlingame SP with the TT.  If you wanna be literally RIGHT on the ocean, camp at Breachway SP, if you want to be near the ocean but have a better CG, go to Burlingame.  These are both in Charlestown, RI.
