Birol just for clarity this picture is of a flare fitting (male one). It requires no tape but does have to be tightened snugly. The ball shape of the connection seals it. It is the type of connection you got the flaring tool to make.

Flare Fitting

The following picture is of a pipe thread fitting it does require tape. The treads on both ends (male and female) are tapered and wedge them selves together when tightened.

I am amazed that , that tapered ends will provide a seal ! I am just about to go out and put the pedal to the metal ! Yes a live test !!!!!! All connections will be tightened ! propane gas cylinder is filled up ! Bottle of soapy water in hand and ready ! We will slightly open the valve very soon and see if we have any leaks !!! Hopefully not !!!! We will then turn the valve open all the way and give it some time to start to leak and keep trsting for leaks ! If all is well after a reasonable amount of time, the range gets tested !!!!!

Quote from: topcat7736The Acme nut isn't providing a seal. The center of its hose extends into that of the tank. There is a tapered end of the center piece which seals into a tapering on the tank when you tighten the green nut.

Well, no leaks  now ! The pipe coming from the PU going into the flared nut had a very minor leak .... And that has been addressed by another turn of the wrench ! I checked and double checked and triple checked, right now it is pressurized and tank valve turned off. Will check once again tomorrow and see if we developed anything and VOILA !!! LET THERE BE BURNERS AFLAME IN FINALLY !!!!

Off I go back to home depot to exchange a few things and return a few more things I do not need.

Birol, standard Acme type connections that thread on the outside of the OPD valve fitting are to be hand tightened. That's why they come without wrench flates and have the grooved exterior for good hand gripping.

POL connections (old style) which thread to the inside of the OPD valve do need to be tightened with a wrench.

I figured that out pretty good and fast when I hand tightened it as much as I could and wasn't satisfied with it. Little bit opening of the valve and the escaping gas sound told me that I had better use the wrench, I think Al also told me to do that.

Turned on the range (burners whatever you call it) after a secondary check and all is well ! We have three burners fully functional in Finally !

This was the most difficult of the three major repairs, thanks a bunch folks !

It sure is worth a lot to be consulted by people who are an authority (well almost if not) in the areas they give advise on !
