Birol,

You Site Is Next To Water Hook Up! But A Bit Of A Walk To The Dump, But Your Close To Me To Dump I Have A Full Hook Up

Ted

Last weekend, took a newly acquired Yuma for a trial run. I am a neophyte to popup camping.  What to do with the gray/grey water was the biggest challenge.  Fortuntely was only a short distance from the dump station.  Figured best thing might be is to have two of those 5 gallon buckets, and let them only get at most 2/3's full.  Can then put them in the back of the pick up and drive to the dump station.

Those of you who camp in primitive areas, how do you deal with this?

Waste disposal while dry camping.....

Remember to pack out everything you bring in, there is no trash service in the forest.  What you may think is biodegradable (paper cups/plates) may actually take months or years to degrade, take them with you.  When using biodegradable cleaning products remember to follow Forest Service guidelines:

A. Do not set up camp closer than 100 feet to a water source, like a stream or pond.

B. Do not wash anything directly in a water source.  Someone downstream may be drinking the water.

C. Bury all waste in "cat holes", at least 8 inches deep.

I use a 50 foot hose connected to our pop up sink drain, angling it away from the water source (take this into consideration when aligning your pop up on the site.  The end of the hose goes in an 8 - 12 inch deep hole.  At the end of the trip the hole is filled back in.

We use a Thetford Porta Potti instead of digging "cat holes" for the human waste.  As there are no dump stations in the forest you will need to dispose of the potti contents.  We usually dump it at one of the vault toilets at day use facilities or bring it home and dump it there.  With the chemicals used in a porta potti - do not dump this into a "cat hole", dispose of it properly.

We copied Tim5055's blue 7-gal container for gray water.  (His website has info and pictures under Information/Gray Water.)  When there are only two of us dry camping for a few days, we usually just take the gray water home to dump.  I have to admit that I've been known to dump clean water (such as the from ice chest) under a tree or cactus.  We don't have a shower or potty, so we don't have to deal w/those things.

I don't know if you have a BigLots, (a clearance type of discount store) in Ontario.  I purchased my gray water hoses there.  Two 50' hoses $1.99 each.  I cut one in half to make two 25' hoses for shorter distance.  They also sold the hose menders, one male, one female to finish the hose ends, all under $6.00.

As far as grey water tanks.  I also found out about the blue Aquatainers available at WallyMart on these PU message boards.  They are relatively easy to handle when full.

If you are going to a campsite with full hookups, at the very least you will want to have the hoses.
