finally got dw to give up her death grip on the calendar, so we headed out for some fun in harpers ferry wv. hooked up, and headed out to harpers ferry koa. as to be expected, the first day of any camping trip is always alwasy dancing a jig with mr murphy. only, someone left a bottle of jamesons open, because mr murphy payed us a visit all weekend. (luckily the good Lord kept mr murphy dancing, so the trouble was minimal. packing and travel to the site were relatively trouble free, except for the usual-dad/honey you"re going the wrong way.... setup was almost divorce court. recently had a bag awning and screen room installed. first time we put it up. dw is an expert in all things, but wnen the contraption dosen"t conform to her expectations, it becomes my fault. and she is vocal. neeedless to say we were one of those campers you hope never to get next to. got the awning up, screen room went back in the box as the required velcro hadn't been attached yet.

day two. aranged with butts tubes, loudoun heights va, //www.buttstubes.com for whitewater boating-notice i said boating. did my research, talked with the staff, explained about family and children, and got set up with something called duckies-what turned out to be a two-person inflatable canoe, with kayack paddles. when we got to the river, the guide commented that these things were nicknamed the divorce boat. they made us practice inflat water  first-luckily for us. dw and the oldest just coudn't make the ting go. guide called for a pickup, and they left us on the bank. back at the outfitters, had a sit-down with the manager (george), as to options. for no extra charge, he set us up with a raft and a personal guide just for us four. george made it right./ what's more, i'll swear he put his best guide onto it. thank you tim!!! made the day perfect. three hours in riffles and class 1 rapids-plenty for first timers and young kids. great conversation and points of interest from tim-my youngest got to swim in the rapids and have the time of his life. high point is when we let the boat fill with water and play in a standing wave-beats the snot out of any whitewater raft ride in any amusement park! great day.

breakdown of camp, same as setup. dw thinks i'm an idiot trying to hitch up, so i let her behind the wheel-and she backed into the toung hard. i still don't know when pull forward became back up hard in the english language, but in this case it had, and it's still my fault. dented the fender real good too. got home, got unpacked, got into bed. great, challenging weekend. see the campground reviews for comments on harpers ferry wv.
