When we got home from camping over the 4th, we opened the PU on the driveway to dry it and give me a chance to wash sheets and remake the beds.   Well, it's still up, just love it that way, but tonight the weather man says we're looking at some pretty strong storms coming in.   I went out and made sure all the windows were zippered up, but can't tell you how tempted I am to go out and sleep in it tonight thru the storm.   I love the sound of rain on the roof, and the good smells from the wet earth.   Not to mention the show that the lightening puts on.   Anyone else love it like I do??

yes, T, it is wonderful to hear and see a storm when you are all snug in your little beddi-bye and the rain is bouncing on the popup roof.  And the rain-wet ground and plants smell sweeter than anything the perfumiers of France have ever produced.

This storm system we are having now reminds me of the time in April my mother came to visit and  early one fine thunder-stormy Palm Sunday morning she gathered our 2 little daughters on her bed and told them how she loved thunderstorms when she was a little girl growing up an Illinois dairy farm  She was extolling the virtues of good old fashioned middlewestern thunderstorms and what fun they were when I came into the room and said the radio had just announced that half of the town of Milan (ten miles from us) had just been blown away by a tornado.

Hah--you should have seen her eyes!  We all went to the basement for awhile after that.  And Mom's enthusiasm for "spring storms" was dimmed quite a bit when we learned that over 150 people were killed that day in Indiana and Michigan.

I love the sound of rain on the roof also, but in our neighborhood, I wouldn't feel safe.

Years ago (mid 90's) we had a conversion van, and apparently 1 of the doors didn't get locked, and the next day when I left for work, I found someone (or several people) spent some time in the van... you could smell cigarettes and pot, a few small burn holes, and things thrown around the van... luckily the only thing taken was a briefcase (we had a vcr and TV which was left).

I love laying in my bed in the pu listening to it rain.  But strong storms make me nervous, especially if I'm out with the girls by myself.  The hardest thing for me when it rains is keeping myself from "scrunching up".  When I was a kid camping in my parents ancient pu we had to keep everything away from the canvas when it rained, otherwise it would get wet.  Therefore we would all make ourselves small to keep from touching the sides (I was the smallest/youngest & generally slept on the outside side of the bed).  That impulse stays with me today & I still have to move things away from the sides when it rains! :)

That's so funny Sharon, because you really DO have to scrunch up in ours!!!  Otherwise the water will go to that spot and go right through the canvas!  That's the only part I don't like about the rain and camping.  That and the humidity inside the camper!

I like to hear the rain on the PU at night, but if there is an electrical storm we leave the PU.  I would never risk my family in an electrical storm.

Well, just to let ya know that the strong storms never really did materialize here.  Had a little rain, and that's about it.  Darn, I was looking forward to it.
