Question about Webshots

Has anyone experienced any excessive pop-ups after using or looking at a webshots page?  (After your system is infected, these pop-ups can come up anytime you open your browser, regardless of the site you are looking at.)

I'm trying to narrow down where I've picked up the outrageous amounts of adware that have stricken my system.  I'm not saying that Webshots is the source, I'm only trying to eliminate or confirm webshots as a suspect site.

I can't say for sure if the Webshots site places adware on your computer, but a lot of places do.
IMO, you should get Ad-Aware or Spy-Bot and run them to eliminate any adware on your system.
One word of caution; some websites, after adware is removed, don't want to work properly.
I use Ad-Aware and run it every week to keep the computer from getting overloaded with "stuff".

Best of luck.

They don't help.  I can run ad-aware and spybot, they seem to find the problems and remove them, but when I reboot, they're back.  There is a hidden executable or commandline statement that they are not finding and eliminating that is reloading them on reboot.  I've looked through the setup logs and cannot seem to trace the sequence of events back to a single file or process that is doing it.  I'm going to try to restore to an older restore point and see if that helps.

Hmmm, I've heard of this before, but I'm at a loss as to what to do.

I'll ask my computer-nerd co-worker if he has any insight to this situation.

Maybe you could get the google tool bar that is supposed to have a pop-up blocker?

Here's another idea......check in on some of the computer forums that are out here in web-land. They can offer help and other insight into what to do.

Here's the cure: Stop using IE. I did.

Go to mozilla.org, and download the latest free version of Firebird or Firefox. I use it almost exclusively. When I have a site that I can't open or something, I try IE, and that works. But for 99.9% of my internet surfing, I use the Mozilla stuff, and I have ZERO popups. I use it at work AND at home.

One aside: You may have to download Java that works with Mozilla or Netscape. But it is still worth it.

I have IE and I don't have excessive popups. I also have Norton Internet Security (wanted a firewall after I got DSL) and the newest version blocks a lot of ads. A lot of ads you see on websites that blick and move and are very annoying just don't show up with Norton Internet Security!

As for WebShots, I have the upgraded membership rather than the free one so I get no pop-up ads at all on the site. However, I have visited the site without being logged on. Got a few pop-ups while I was there, but nothing like you're describing.
