Due to family conflicts, and because it seems unlikely at this point that many have (or will) sign up for this trip, Earl and I have decided to cancel out of this one. I also don't like competing with the COTOC trip (Or was it SEPUC?) that is the same weekend.

Many of you know that we signed a contract on house in Bath County...(vacation house now...retirement house later). We are scheduled to close in early September, and will need to spend all month getting our house ready to sell and moving in with my mom (her house needs alot of work, as well). In addition to time constraints, we also are financially pushed to get the 10% deposit together by closing. We are already committed to the races Sept. 9-11, and that's about all we can handle in September with Billie beginning her senior year of High School.

We will certainly miss Westmoreland (Earl is missing the fishing already) and hope no one has done too much planning.  I think JAB has reservations, but other than that, I have not heard definately from anyone else.

If anyone is interested in visiting us (hunting season and trout season is just around the corner!) in the mountain house, let me know. We would love to have you visit. It's in a tiny town called Millboro...30  minutes from Lexington, VA.  We have 3 acres of level grass out back !!!

Well, sorry to hear you had to cancel, but nice to hear about the house! Good luck to you and Earl. I hadn't made the reservations, as this was just not a date I could work with as it's too close to my Labor Day trip.

I'm hoping to get a weekend at Buggs Island Lake this October at one of the COE campgrounds, the trip is for pre-planning for next Easter's Spring Fling. I figured I'd check out the COE's because if they are anywhere near as nice as Goose Point (and their pictures seemed to make them look about the same) then this campground will be a great place for it!!

Sounds Good Cliff!  I know you definately don't want to come back to Pocahontas...the campground expansion project is in full swing...and the trucks and equipment can be noisy. They have tried really hard this summer to hold trucks until 8am, but in the fall and spring I'm sure they will be pushing to finish and will be going great guns.

I walked through the new campground last week, and the new sites will be nearly twice as large as the present ones! The tradeoff was fewer trees though...the area where they are working was hard hit by Isabel and too wet to retain many large trees. Maybe the grassier sites will be a nice change, especially for the larger RV's. We have so many trees in the present campground, people tend to "back" into them.

Let me know if I can help next spring. Maybe next year I can actually JOIN you!

I'll let you know, planning will probably start around the first of the year, I've yet to check them out and talk to the campgrounds about this.

Meanwhile, I was talking with someone at rv.net that posting as 'Virginia State Parks' and seemed to be quite knowledgeable about VSP's until I asked them about the Pocahontas expansion, this person didn't seem to know anything about it!!!

So one question, when do they expect to open the new section? I'd like to check it out at some point. To me it would be like camping in a whole new campground!!! :D

Hello all.. Well things are a little crazy here. My Dad went through the surgery, however once released, we had to rush him back to the emergency room. He is getting much better. It turns out that they had him on just too many med.s, and this is why we had to rush him back in.. The good thing is that he was here. Penny's surgery went well, and is feeling better.
We are still planning on visiting family in CA from Sept. 10-21, and this made it hard for us to attend any function that month..

Louise; we are happy to hear about you house. We wish you all the luck..

We do hope to see you sometime this fall, maybe Douhthat in October.. Just a thought.

It was COTOC that has a trip that weekend.  Sorry that you had to cancel your trip, but good luck on the house.  I hope everything goes well for you. :)

Louise & Earl,

Good luck with the closing! You'll have to show us new pictures once you move in.

We hope to see you guys at a campground soon, whether it's in the mountains, on the coast, or ???

I am sorry to hear about the cancelation considering Rich and I are the only ones signed up. I am so happy to hear about the house and I know how senior year of high school can keep the whole family busy!!
We may change our reservation to another time and place that is a great thing about the VA State Park system!!

I talked to Earl last night about a weekend at Douthat in October, and he thinks that's a great idea. Even better, we could have dinner one night at the new house in Millboro, which is only 20 - 30 minutes from Douthat. (Yes, I may make you move a few boxes!)

Let us get the house closing over with, and I'll let you know. Earl also has to have time to replace all the kitchen cabinets, which will take at least a long weekend. Any suggestions for dates? We talked about the weekend of the 16th...what do you think?

So sorry Rich and Jackie...hope you can go to Westmoreland anyway, or maybe transfer to Douthat if we can finalize plans in time!

Anyone else up for Douthat in October?

Louise
