Does anyone have any proven ideas to keep bees away? Last year I got stung in back to back camping weekends.   I don't use flowery shampoo, deodorant, etc. I tried the Bounce sheet thing, but that only seemed to attrack more of them. The little buggers just seem to like me, especially this time of year. I was cutting the grass today and a yellow jacket flew down my shirt. I whipped it off quick and avoided getting stung.

What's an outdoor's man to do? Thanks!

The bees are just in a frenzy right now with the end of their "season" coming.  I had to fight a yellow jacket for my slice of pizza yesterday while at a party.  I tried to shoo him away, but he just crawled around the crust checking things out.  I was hoping it wasn't so he'd send for reinforcements.

I've heard a bunch of rememdies about sugar water, syrup, soda -- all on a plate AWAY from where you will be.  I've tried them all with NO success -- those plates attracked the bees, but I think it drew even more into our area in general.

I think your best bet would be those hanging bee traps they sell at Lowes or Home Depot. They attract the bee's, then trap them...

Last year Labor Day the yellow jackets were very active.  In desperation I went into town and bought a trap, about $6-7.  It worked, but what do you do with a plastic container full of irritated yellow jackets?  Early this year I asked on this board about home made traps.  An empty 2 liter bottle, with the top cut off and inverted makes a funnel into the rest of the bottle.  The bottle is baited with sugar water.  The bugs fly in, can't figure out how to get out.  This year we haven't had any problems...yet.  But, I have an empty 2 liter in the PU ready to try out.

If this works, a heck of a lot better than six bucks.  If not, off to True Value.

Hope this helps,
Bob
