No popups in Yellowstone? yeah, right....

Just got back from 3 weeks where we went up through Grand Teton into Yellowstone and on up through Banf and Jasper.  Have seen several times where people posted about are popups allowed, etc. in Yellowstone because of bears. (I know they're allowed - I think people look at the one 'RV' type campground in the park and popups aren't allowed there and so folks get confused)

Anyway, we stayed at Grant villlage and there were MORE POPUPS THAN ANY OTHER TYPE OF CAMPER - RV OR TENT:) .  DW and I were very surprised and walked all of the loops and popups outnumbered everything else.

Now for the bad news - only one of those popups had a PUT sticker on it that we could see and that one was ours.  In fact, other than at Nick-Neff-Cough events, I have only had one person notice ours and that was in Jasper.  I am sort of bewildered by this - I know every single one of us has a sticker on their popup, right?  And we always are being social with others while camping, right?  So where are we all?

Anyway, we also had a single mom approach us about our popup while we were setting up in Grand Teton.  She asked lots of questions, wondered if she could handle one and I stopped what I was doing and told her about how we on this board have helped many figure out everything they needed to know to pull, setup, and maintain their rig.  Wrote down the web address for her and with any luck she's been here already poking around.

It was great to see literally hundreds of popups at Yellowstone.  Now if we can just get some of them to join us.....

Funny you should mention about the stickers... I too have only met one other family with a put times sticker. That was 2 years ago in Cherrystone. This past trip I did tell a man about PUT and all, but it would be nice to have a little card that I can hand out... Maybe I will have to make one up:):)

I must have seen many  hundreds of popups on the road this summer. From north Georgia up 441-365 to I-40 to KNoxville, then via I-75 to Ann Arbor; from Ann Arbor to Denver and back (via  I-80), then on my travels in Maine, and then from Ann Arbor to Georgia again.  the only PUT stickers I saw were mine :(  :(  :(

Hey, abbear, thanks  much for posting that popups are not banned everywhere in Yellowstone.  that's very good news and useful for all of us to know.

I spotted one once, but it was going the other way!! Ya gotta remember, on the grand scheme of things, those of us here on this board are nothing more than a drop in a bucket!! We ARE the few, the proud, the....?

Edit: hows that?

"We ARE the few, the proud, the....?"  the stubborn?  the wise? the weird?

But, Cliff,  REALLY--"spit in a bucket"?    It's picturesque, but  maybe just a bit toooo...umm, picturesque. ;)

Well....we have had a popuptimes bumper sticker on our TV for quite a while now.... (2 years?? I don't remember).  BUT, sadly, we have yet to see another one in all that time.  Of course, we tend to dry camp in FS campgrounds in Montana for the most part.... kind of isolated from most of the people on this board.  Although SOME of you DO make it to Yellowstone!!   But I don't camp there because of my dogs.   sigh.   some day I will see another sticker... I just know I will!!!

Oh yeah... need to add OF COURSE there are popups in Yellowstone!!!

I think what amazed me was not that there were popups in Yellowstone (as I said earlier I knew there would be) but the concentration of them.  And when I see that many (outnumbering all the rest) I can't help but wonder why it seems like so much of the RV industry looks down on us.  We are their future, after all, especially when you look at the migration from popup to hybrid to travel trailer and more.

WARNING: MAN EXHORTING FROM SOAPBOX AHEAD

I think it may be time to figuratively unzip a window, put our face right up to the screen mesh, and yell at the top of our lungs, 'We're mad as hell, and were not going to take it anymore!'

You may now resume normal speed :D

No, a-b, it doesnt "disqualify" you.  But if you WERE a Parrot Head, it would multiply your wonderfulness factor :J   and probably get you several offers of free Margaritas.

We also just got back from Yellowstone....we also stayed in Grant village!!!!!!  We kayaked (is that a word?) In lake Jenny and part of the Snake River.  You are right!  Tons of pop ups and the only sticker we saw was the one on our truck and our PU!    Just got in after trucking for 700 miles.....night night! More on our trip later.

We also stayed at Grant't Village last year. There were more PU than anything else. Sites  were close, all the lake side ones were gone when we got there. The park was so crowded that they closed the entrances to the park for several hours. It was nuts. If we go again it will be on an off season. Never in August again.

We were there last week Fri, Sat. and Sun., maybe because of the weather or maybe because of school starting, there were few folks camping.  Lots of room.  We found that in the park in general, mostly folks from different countries.

I think the end of August is different.  It might also be the price of gas....$2.24 in the park.  The rain was hard at night and we froze our hands popping down in the morning.  But....we would not have missed the time we spent there at all.

I had the same problem, so I E-mailed Dave and he sent me some brochures I could hand out.  Unfortunately, I keep forgetting to put them in the camper!  I've now placed them inside the door of the pop-up, so there's no way I can miss them next time!

I've had someone ask me about our pop-up just about every trip.  Whether it's some cool gadget we have that they want to ask about or just popping up in general, they ask and we give them the tour.  This last trip was with our Girl Scout troop and it was a family campout.  After bringing a borrowed tent and finding out it was way too small, then buying a brand new tent and finding it came with its own grass and leaves inside and was missing a tent pole :swear:,  a dad came over and asked DH all about our trailer, if his vehicle could tow it, the pros, the cons, etc.  We may have a new convert!

When we were in Lake Tahoe we noticed a much larger number of pop-ups than we've seen in the past.  I think with the trend since 9/11 being not to travel as far and camping seems to have gotten more popular, the entry level RV is a pop-up and so we're seeing more.  I doubt the Class C, B, or A people have the comraderie amongst themselves that we have!

We have yet to see a sticker on a vehicle other than ours.  We always look!  I was sure I'd see a few on the way to the Western Rally in Pismo, but I didn't spot a one -- until I hit the campground.  Then they were all over the place!
