Has anybody camped at William Heise campground? If so, how was it? We are wanting to try it out.

We camp there all the time.  It's really nice.  WE haven't been since before the big fires last year, but we are going up for thanksgiving.  They just put in a few hookups.  The hook up sites are in the caravan area and I believe it's all asphalt.  The non-hookup sites have lots of trees.  Has bathrooms with one bathhouse.  Pretty clean!  People are generally quiet and relaxed.  Most sites pretty flat.  I would recommend.  Rangers are really friendly and helpful too.  We usually take a short trip into Julian.

Have fun!

Hey Jennifer --

I guess when we were talking in Pismo I left out Heise.  It's one of my favorite spots.  And you're so close!  It's very woodsy with big open areas.  The sites are well spaced.  The bathrooms are clean, but the daddy longlegs love to hang out in there.  Once you convince your girls they don't bite, they should be okay.  There is a hiking trail that starts at a 1 miles loop, or you could go further.  We did the 1 mile and it was a great, pretty easy hike with a breathtaking view.  And of course, the trip into Julian for apple pie is well worth it.  My DH and I discovered Julian about 13 1/2 years ago and went at least yearly to our favorite B&B.  We always wanted to check out Heise because we could see the signs.  Finally we just made reservations.  It was a great trip.  And in the fields on the way to the park you'll see deer and wild turkeys if you look close.  Have a great time!
