What is it with kids now a days. They have no respect at all for other peoples property. This past week some kid decided to use my PU for a skateboard ramp. The picture shows the damage. I'm pretty sure who did it. My question is can the aluminum skin be replaced easily or should I just leave it. There are two sets of maks on the same side. There are no breaks just the dent so there is no problem with leaks. I don't have insurance at this time because we are finding a new insurance company. Our former company went out of business without notice and we didn't know about it until I tried to contact them about this. They seem to have went out within the last month.

ScD, I am sorry to have no information for you--just plenty of sympathy.  There are lots of good decent insurance comapanies but the crooked ones give everyone a bad name and they are just stealing from peoples' pockets who dont have money to waste.

As for the kids--well,  it seems like today that too many are being raised without decent moral standars and supervision.  Like insurance companies, the bad ones spoil things for the good ones.

I hope someone here can offer you some encouraging information or some magical advice about how to remove the  dents.   Elisa

I'd expect that out of some nitwit California kid, not from someone from Michigan.  Can only offer sympathy and disbelief.  Does the kid have a car? Don't you love to ice skate?  I see the potential here to teach a lesson in the not-Golden Rule....."Do unto others and they have done onto you."

Hmmm, gsm x 2, I've always heard it was, "Do unto others BEFORE they do unto you."  :J

Haven't you heard two wrongs don't make a right!!!

And watch what you say about California kids...they are not all "nitwits" anymore than all Michgan kids being good.

I am a "Michigan " kid & my son is a "California" kid, so I can say this.

Keep it NICE   :)

StarcraftDad    That is terrible what the kids did to your camper. I know how I would feel if it happened to mine. At least it is good that it did not break through so that it would leak. I don't know of any way to remove the marks other than to replace the roof, if it is like my Coleman the aluminum skin on the roof is very thin. I would be afraid to try much of anything with it as long as it doesn't leak.
Maybe this will give you an excuse to go camping more often, after all you can not see the damage if the camper is set up at the campground.

I have heard that two wrongs don't make a right.  I also believe that on occasion you have to translate messages into the language people understand.  That doesn't make it right; it just makes it understandable.  My wife tells a story about her younger sister, who as a toddler was "a biter."  One day she bit her mother and her mother bit her back.  The younger sister never bit after that.  Could it be that until someone bit her she had no idea that it hurt?

On occasion here in California, gang members will randomly use pellet guns and shoot the windows of cars; dozens of them.  These are the same kids who would  go ballistic if someone scratched their precious cars.  Go figure!

Born in Michigan...lived in CA for the last......40+ years.....where did they all go to?

Why does he need a car?  Lay him on the sidewalk and skateboard on his back!

Hey, watch it!  I have one of those nitwit California skater kids under my roof!  However, he's not inclined to do damage like you show.  He's the kid that leaves when his friends aren't using the best judgement when they're someplace.

My sympathies.  I think a talk is in order to the parents of the suspect.  At least they'd be on their toes knowing that you're on to the kid and won't lie down for it.  Otherwise he gets away with it scott free.  Or even a vandalism report and tell them who you suspect, so the police can talk to him.  That would make an even bigger impact.

sheesh..I think everyone is taking this comment a little too serious.  :eyecrazy:

I do beleive this comment was made in jest, because CALI  is known for skateboarders & surfers.

I agree 100% after you get your hands on him or her.  Then I would make this person work to pay for the damages.  I wouldn't let mommy and daddy foot the bill.  Then he or she just might learn a good lesson.

yes,  but maybe also, she was also a bit tongue in cheek with her remark, too.

I mean, geeze, we have all known absolute BRATS (often with equally lousy parents) and also have known kids sent straight from the wings of angels.  And  we all know it doesnt matter where we live.

But yes, I think  Starcraft Dad's original  abservation was likely made with a humorous tip of the hat to the much-publicized  California skateboard/surfer mentality.  (And I have two Cali nephews who  are surfers AND the sweetest kids in the world.)

The main thing is, he has a damaged trailer and is upset about it and SO ARE WE, obviously!       And is there any help for this?

NightOwl

OK gang, I have an idea and it is probably the stupidest one in the world, but maybe it will help some and I think if done carefully, it wont hurt anything.

First of all, you need a nice clear day to do this--no rain.  No source of wetness anywhere to avoid an electrifying surprise.

If the roof is made from a thin layer of aluminum, why not:

pad the area around the grooves  well and then climb up on it.  Cover the grooves with a thin damp cloth.

Then take a pretty warm  iron and run it over the COVERED, grooved  area to see if this might even it out a bit.  If done patiently with care regarding the temp of the iron, this might help at least some.  if it helps to even out the borders between the grooves and the flat area, the damage  might be less obvious.

Maybe doing a small test area would be a good idea.

Obviously, you have to be VERY careful to get the iron warm enough to shape and flatten  the aluminum a bit and not damage or delaminate  the layers underneath.  Perhaps pre-warming a small area with a hair dryer before it is worked on might help.

Yeah, I know this sounds crazy, but short of replacing the roof, it is the only thing I can think of.  Good luck and maybe it would be good to surround it with razor wire when/if  you get it fixed or replaced..

Trina----the California/Michigan comment was "tongue in cheek", but NOW that you bring up my name IT'S PERSONAL.  I've got your address; I've got a huge supply of TP (can you guess what brand); watch out.

BTW---this entire post is tongue-in-cheek and I hope NO BODY TPs Trina's home in the foreseeable future.

see? what have we been hearing all along? Just look at the quoted post above!  What further  proof do we need--these People are weird--they have toilet paper fetishes, and they are ALL running around looking extremely  peculiar because they have this huge bulge in their cheeks where their tongues apparently reside permanently.  Can you say CAL-I-For-Ni-A?  :J :J :J
