which is better for camping - more spacious site / a bit more privacy and less niose/small kids?

I saw a few pictures of the SP and it loooked like a big parking lot to me, although somtimes pictures can be decieving......

Is the NP the same way.

do either campsite offer anything in the way of shade??

There isn't any shade in either park.  The National Park has some sites that are more private, ex:a large dune covered with brush separating the sites.  The sites are spread out more too.  As far as kids go, people with kids camp in both parks.  Noise is less in the National Park, because there are fewer campsites=fewer people, but neither park is very loud.  The wind tends to blow any noise away and the ocean tends to drowned out sounds. :)

I have pictures of the park on my webshots pages. :)

Hi,

It looks like you prefer the national campground to the state?

Yes I do.  I have camped in both, but prefer the national park.  The state park has a few electric sites if you want electric. :)

I Think The State Park Has Nicer Showers And It Is Nice Having The Store In The Campground And They Have Alot Of Programs For Kids But The National Park Is Less Expensive

Welcome to PUT.  I agree the state park has nicer showers/bathrooms, they have hot water showers and the NP only has cold water showers and chemical toilets.  I have been to the store in the SP and the selection was poor and their prices were very high.  It is usually worth the drive to Food Lion or Wal-Mart to buy stuff.  The NP has many programs for kids and adults too.  The NP is open all year long (we camp at Easter each year and the SP usually isn't open) and the sites are more spread out.  The bushy dunes give some sites more privacy and if you tent you can have a walk in site that gets you away from the traffic.  The NP also offers the bay side campground if you don't want to have the wind blowing off the ocean.

Do you camp at Assateague often?
