I spent yesterday morning Changing my Single 12v Battery to Twin 6v Golf Cart Batteries.

I guess its time for a dry camping weekend.  Brainpause & Homecrew--  Still looking to meet you all half way :D

That'd be cool if we could meet somewhere. TPUC will be at Fall Creek Falls SP the first weekend in November (tpuc.com and http://www.state.tn.us/environment/parks/parks/FallCreekFalls/).

IIRC, it is about as far from your town as it is from mine!

Great mod!  I am needing to upgrade my battery and after reading what you did, I am leaning to 2 of the 6 volt batteries. Where did you buy your batteries?  I have a couple of golf cart dealerships near or should I look into other sources?

Are you planning on any type of cover for the battery?  Not that a cover really provides any real protection for the battery, but it dose prevent a metal object from making a conection with the posts.  Do they make a cover for these since most sit inside a golf cart?

Thanks!

I got mine at a place called Batteries Plus.  I was kind of disappointed that I had more knowledge than the guy working there, but they had what I wanted in stock, the price was good and they were close to home.  If you are going to stick with the Trojans, just shop by price.

They are basically a little smaller than a group 24 in footprint, but taller.  Yes, they do make a box sized for a single battery but for me two boxes just added extra inches I didn't want to give up.  I am looking for some sort of a cover but as you stated it's only to keep something from shorting them out.  If I find the correct size it won't even have to go all the way down.

Tim,

There's nothing like big batteries to keep you out of the dark!

We've got 2-30# LP tanks on the tongue as well as the battery. Whenever we arrive at the campsite, I hook up the battery and turn on both LP tanks to insure uninterrupted everything while we are there. I also noticed that there was always a spark when connecting it up. As it's close to the 2-tanks, I decided to be better safe than sorry & installed an on/off switch on the battery box. Now, don't anyone think you can use a little switch to do the job. The current being drawn, under full loading of the battery, will end the life of most switches in a hurry.
