For any last min. campers who are looking for a nice place.

We will be @ Little Pine State Park from 10/8/04 thru 10/12 and maybe 10/13 if weather is good.

Fall colors are expected to be hitting by then and nice weather for hitting the Pa Grand Canyon Rails to Trails biking & hiking.

If Hickory Run is about 3 hours from me (I 80) and Little Pines is North of I 80, how far (approximate time wise, towing) is Little Pines from the I 80/476 interchange? Or Dave, better yet, how long does it take you to get there from Mountaintop? I have a V-6 pulling a trailer that is heavier than most popups. Going can be a little slower up hill, and going north seems to be mostly up hill.

MTNDAVE

From Mountaintop (I-80 & I-81 intersection) to Little Pine SP is 1-3/4 hr. drive. I'm no speed race and generally move along at 55 - 65. I too tow with a 6 cyl.

There is no adverse terrain on the way, just the usual I-80 rolls. No big hills.

I take I-80 west to I-180 to Williamsport. Pick up Rt #220 to Rt #44, then follow signs up #4001 a couple miles and your are there.

Here is the site I had last trip.  I had to take the one next to it this time.

Thier is a note on the state dnr website about accessing this campground.  Seems an access road was flooded out and is now inaccessible.  Their is an alternate route posted though.  But that makes me wonder what kind of shape the campground itself is in now.

This is the current advisory.

Little Pine Creek Road from English Center to Carsontown remains closed due to flool related damage and repairs. Access to the park for campers should be from PA Rte 44 at Waterville.

Not to worry, that is not the way in. This is the road down from the North and English Center. You would come up Rt # 44 thru Waterville and the closing is above the park proper.

I called yesterday and there are no reported problems at the campground. Camping area is below the dam and pretty well protected from water. The damage is in the stream beds North, above the Park, feeding the lake/dam. The dam did it's job.

I called the reservation center yesterday and they said there a lot of open sites for that weekend. :)

I was going to Indiana that weekend, but the 12 hour drive (NOT TOWING), the motel room etc make this trip look better and better.

I will have off Thursday through MOnday making this trip doable.

Jeffrey will have to be back in school on Monday (they go to school Columbus day). THat is if he even goes to school...he went, attended homeroom to get marked there for the day, then took off. Heavens knows where and who with...I need another get away...maybe Raymond will remember the toast and stay home like he threatened to do.

We will be camping again next weekend (finally). We have not been able to go for family reasons, since the July rally.
We are headed up to Lickdale in Jonestown PA. If anyone is in the area, stop by and say hello..

Beckie, Lee and Paula are you camping???  Dave what site are you on???

MTNDAVE

Sharon and I are booked on site #71. We are heading up Friday afternoon.

We have Guests arriving on Saturday morning and we are gettin the Bikes on the Pine Creek Rail to Trail for the day. Probably heading up canyon and hoping to get a 15 - 20 mile ride in. :eyecrazy:

Our guests will be staying till Sunday and this is their first camping trip.

We will be staying on till Tuesday and if the weather is good, maybe Wednesday. Long range forecast looks pretty good and NO Hurricanes in sight, thank God. Of course that could all change at any time.

WE Love Fall camping. It's the Best.

I'm thinking.. It is my Birthday weekend (actually Monday the 11th) and I usually go "home" as it is harvest homecoming that weekend in New Albany IN. Love that persimmon pudding.

Last year I went and got rooked into helping my mother empty her kitchen and other rooms for the exterminator, never made it to the festival.  Then she stayed in my motel room...Motel was cheaper than the local campground (not to mention 14 hours of towing and the gas going through the mountains of WV and MD).

Is there any place to get persimmon pudding around little pines? How hard do you think it will be to talk Raymond into letting me come up there all by myself??I know he will not want to drive that far and he does not have off on THurs and Friday. He complained about the trip to Hickory Run....

I called the reservation center today and all they have are dry sites left.  I can camp with out electric, Paula, Lee and Beckie are you guys going???

I have to abandon Jon if I go, so this is a hard decision for me. :eyecrazy:

Tracy, if you abandon Jon and I abandon Raymond and Jeffrey, just bring yourself and you could bunk with me, I have 2 beds (actually 4 if you count the dinettes) and everything you would need except for a wonder foam for the small bed...looks like I will get one of those today. Plus, I would get there Thursday...no set up, just enjoy for once...

If you bunk with me, I will take out the electric gadgets, so we will not miss them as much.

Lets see, no mocrowave, no toaster oven, NO TV (truth is at Hickory run I did not even turn it on), no hotpot. Can make it all weekend with out Raymond and the amenities of life???? How many extension cords will it take to get to the nearest electric??? :banghead:

Maybe it would be simpler to bring my tent...I'm game if you are...but I will bring the Bantam with gas heat and gas hot water and a gas fridge (thought I have never got it to light). Let me know...I know with flash lights, a few good friends and a roaring campfire, I can survive

Thank you for your offer Paula, but I will bring my PU so that I can empty it out for the winter.  It will give me time to sort and unpack.  I plan on going to the Pine Grove KOA in November, if the weather is good, but this may be my last trip of the year.  I will blow out my water lines and run antifreeze through the system before I pop down.   My DH may take off work on Saturday so Jon may come with me Friday night and DH could pick him up at the campground on Saturday.  So thank you for your offer, but I will bring the PU even though I didn't want to.

Does that mean you are going?? I do not want to make a 5 hour trip and be virtually alone (sorry Dave, but I only just met you and your wife for abrief time at the dinner)
