The 13 inch television in our tv, a conversion van, has been slowly on it's way out.  The pictures gotten smaller and smaller.  Finally, on Tuesday, it just went to the big television heaven in the sky.

With a long road trip coming up and a car full of Girlscout campers, I was bound and determined to find a new television before Friday (tomorrow).

Do you guys know how much those 12 volt televisions for the van cost?!?!  Almost all the ones we found were upwards of $300-$400!  Yow!

Thankfully, DH found one at Boatersworld.com .  It is a Audiovox FlexVision.  It is equipped with crash tested hardpoints for mounting.  It retails for under $200!  Wow!  What a great price!  And, the fFed Ex shipping for 2nd day was just $15.  Not bad.

It just arrived and looks great!

Hmmph. $200 for a 13" tv is too rich for my blood. A $59 13" tv from Walmart & a $23 inverter would have left some $$$ for me to put more burgers on the table! LOL

And, speaking of burgers, the Blubber burgers Elisa brought us dripped their fat contents onto the charcoal, while cooking in their "frozen state", and shot flames a foot into the air! They should come packaged with a fire extinguisher or chopped up into little pieces that could be used to start campfires in the rain! (Don't tell her but they tasted ok.....after I cooked them).  ;)

Don't you just LOVE Boater's World!?  We've gotten LOTS of things we use camping there!  Our favorite is our deck (I mean campfire) chairs!  VERY lightweight and VERY comfy since it doesn't round out your back like the bag chairs do.

I agree that $200 is a lot still.  But having the hightop conversion van with the opening for the tv, I just didn't like having the wires and stuff hanging all over the place.  It bugs me when stuff is sloppy.  Also, the new television is designed for vehicle use. Reinforced mounting areas so there is less chance if the thing becoming a projectile in the event of a crash.  It's also made to handle the higher moisture experienced form being used in an outside the home setting.  The VCP and dvd players for vehicles are also made that way.

As for Bubba Burgers... the flame factor is one reason we cook them in a griddle or in a frying pan.  All that dripping yumminess does make a lot of flame and it's hard to grill them without charring them.  They come out sooo juicy fried!

the reason the burgers caused flames 10 feet high :J is because HE doesnt know how to cook by "indirect heat" which is the best way to use a charcoal grill.  the next time we get together I'll TRY to show him what an old scout leader taught us about this.  And it always works and NO flare-ups  :#

Have fun Cindy--but isnt it a bit of a paradox to bring  acar  tv for Girl Scouts--they should just be content with singing jolly songs  as you chauffer them along:U  or telling Knock-Knock jokes. :yikes:   Or better yet, they could see how many popups they spot or how many PUT stickers they see. ;)  they could pretend to be pioneers back in "olden times" before there was such a thing as a tv in a car  :tent:  :)  :-()

Hey! I'm gonna try that one, Elisa ~ see if I can convince my kids that they are pioneers ...
They just think they have a mean mom who won't let them watch TV in the TV  ;)

Off for a wonderful weekend with the kiddos and some good friends.

I'm going Camping! :D

The tv is for MY sanity for the car ride to the wilderness!

Songs for 2 hours??... Knock knock jokes????  What kind of sick sadistic person are you to wish these on me?!?  I thoughtwe were good friends!!! :J

You know, I really like this thread.:#  It is full of silliness, no problems except for the cost of the tv and the potential loss of your sanity, Cindy   There is not a word here about  divorce anguish , no dying relatives, no cats strayed and run over by a car asking  us to weep over,  no out-of-work spouses, no prayer requests, no popups lost to financial  worries,. :-()

Maybe--in the interests of fairness (what--another joke?;))  admin should ban ALL problems here which cannot be solved with a good, hearty joke. :S  Life is hard enough these days without having to read of people's personal problems here so let's just skip ALL  that  crap  ;)  from now on and focus on the really important things like  Knock-Knock Jokes and Bubba Burgers and who will win the next NASCAR championship.:J

I really LIKE the way the board is taking shape these days--such a warm and friendly atmosphere now that all the  untidy personal stuff  will be gone and we can concentrate on more meaningful things.    And, "now now, cousin, I will do the dance of joy" as Balki used to say.  :-()

(Just take along  plenty of Advil for the headaches of having to listen endlessly  to "99 Bottles Of Beer On The Wall" :J and you'll make it through the drive and the weekend  just fine, Cindy. :# )

And be sure to let us know how it went when you get back--but please, dont tell us if someone  got burnt or broke a leg or  had a nervous breakdown.  You are limited to nothing more serious than poison ivy.:)

Indirect cooking?? Seems to me I remember SOMEONE eating a lot of indirectly cooked chicken from that same grill. Hey, I remember I cooked it too!!!  ;)

Does this mean you will soon be appearing on the new tv in Cindy's car for the edification of the Girl  Scouts with your own cooking show?  Let's see, we could call the show "Chef Al Attacks Bubba Burgers And Other Foods Too Numerous To Mention."  :#  :J   :p
