Anyone Giong to be watching?  Hopefully we have clear skies.

October 13, 2004: According to folklore, October's              full moon is called the "Hunter's Moon" or sometimes the              "Blood Moon." It gets its name from hunters who tracked              and killed their prey by autumn moonlight, stockpiling food for the              winter ahead. You can picture them: silent figures padding through              the forest, the moon overhead, pale as a corpse, its cold light betraying              the creatures of the wood.

The              Blood Moon rises this year on Wednesday, Oct. 27th. At first it will              seem pale and cold, as usual. And then ... blood red.

It's a lunar eclipse. Beginning at 9:14 p.m. EDT (6:14 p.m. PDT),              the moon will glide through Earth's shadow for more than three hours.              Observers on every continent (map)              except Australia can see the event: The pale-white moon will turn              pumpkin orange as it plunges into shadow, becoming eerie red during              totality.

I hope it is clear out :) .

The good things about a lunar eclipse are :
*the event lasts for hours so you are less likely to miss out unless you forget all together. Eclipse starts at sundown!
* you don't need any equipment to view a lunar eclipse. Binoculars can add close up views but is not at all necessary and is most times better without. Telescopes are too close and it is better to take in the whole effect without a scope.
* naked eye viewing is totally safe!!
* it is a great excuse to have a lunar party- with a few friends, some comfy lawn chairs, snacks and (liquid?) refreshments.
* great learning tool for kids- teach 'em about our solar system.
Nature  is offering us a beautiful, wonderous show. The color of the eclipsed moon will depend on atmospheric conditions. Color can be from pale orange to dark brick red. Can't wait to see it!!
The astronomy club I belong to will be gathering for this one!
Here's hoping for clear skies! :)

If it is clear out, I will be watching through our telescope. Should be great..

We're excited, looks like it's gonna a beautiful night. It would be nice to see any pictures from diffrent parts of the country. Enjoy

Surfcal

No pictures from San Francisco, but it was a beauty.

ForestCreature

No pics from Detroit either...passing clouds got in the way now and then. Never turned very red,   More of a brownish    But  it was still cool to watch inbetween the clouds.
The small neighborhood eclipse party was much fun tho :!

cyclone

No pics from Nashville, either.  Word for word what Marcy said (except the party) describes what we saw here.   And, I just HAD to laugh when I read her post; I had just commented that I bet Marcy's "hood" had a viewing party.  Then, I sign on and read that they did.   lol
