We had a great time Sunday last weekend biking downhill for 17  miles from Whitetop to Damascus, VA.  The bike shuttle was $10 each and renting a bike would have added $20.  The scenery is gorgeous.  We had a beautiful clear sunny day, but wondered about folks we saw in town on Saturday who had started during rain in the morning - ended up cold, wet and splattered.

We camped in the Mt. Rogers National Forest, and they gave a 50% discount for DH's Golden Age pass.  The CG folks were great, even gave us a host site with water and electric when we arrived near dark on Friday, charge only $12 a night.  We stayed 3 nights and really loved the area - like the Cades Cove part of the Smokies in places.

A super final popup trip for the year.

WOW...now THAT sounds like a great trip.  Isn't that area gorgeous!   :>

Absolutely!  My sister and her husband live in Winston Salem and made the arrangements.  They have been a couple of times.  We looked forward to seeing them and biking downhill, but we had no idea how beautiful it would be.  It's a long 6 hours home though.

Yep..lots of beautiful places around there. We're in Northern Virginia area now but I grew up in East Tennessee and spent many weekends in the mountains of East Tennessee, North Carolina, and Virginia.

Sounds beautiful!
