How do you do IT?

Back in the early part of the season, DH couldn't do any of the set up due to Drs orders. He had to sit and watch me, which drove him crazy. The part that drove him nuts the most was I diddn't do it in the exact way he did. The end results are the same , a level and stable camper.

Do you do "it" the same way your spouse or SO  when you are doing the set up alone?

campincrew

my wife and I learned together.  If she were to do it herself I am sure she would do it the same way we do it together.
1. Level R-L
2. Level F-B
3. Raise roof
4. Stabilizers down
5. Bunk ends out
6. Door Down
7. Outside hook ups
8. outside furniture
9. Relax
10. Relax..... :D  :-()  :!

I am sure that DH would NOT do it the same way I do.  He doesn't know how to set up the PU, so I would have to ... him if he did. :yikes:

Campaholics

DW would do it the same as I would.  About two trips ago she wrote down everything in order.  The list got real detailed.  Then again, I am the list king.

The one thing I would add to Campingcrew's sequence is open propane valve before bunk ends out.

I'd second that!  Seems like every trip I curse myself when I'm crawling under there and unzipping the cover to turn on the propane!

I follow the same order when I set up, too.   Except I rest first and a couple times in the middle, too!   :D

My DW just watches me do everything

OC Campers

I setup our Westlake one time by myself (dh watched and instructed).  All I can say is I wish I had purchased the Taos:D .  If I had to do it all myself, I probably would have a tt.  The one thing I did differently than Dh was I left the camper hooked up to the van.  I was very intimidated by the hitch-up process.  Too much to forget.

It's not as intimidating as you think. I hitched up alone last year for the first time as I was headed to a ladies weekend of camping. Not even a neighbor was around to help guide me to the hitch. Took a little doing getting lined up, but it got done. Just go slow and recheck things before you take off. The hardest part was I couldn't check the turn signals alone.

I hitch up all by myself all the time.   After you've pulled the trailer a while you get used to where it's supposed to be in the mirrors ~ that's how I get lined up.  Then I check to see how much farther back I have to go and put a stick or a rock on the ground where the rear tire would be if I backed up that far.  Back up to that point and you should be darn near perfectly lined up.  Of course I did miss once ... but every bumper needs a ding or two, right?  ;)

Marcy ~ turn on your hazards.  That will tell you if your turn signals will flash properly.  How did you check the brake lights?

Ditto. But after the door goes down, DW goes inside to set up while I finish off the outside.

we have been doing so long together, its second nature, if he misses a step i automaticaly doing it. I too go inside after the camper is leveled and tires are blocked, and the beds are down,  I make the beds, and ken hooks up the w/e/s/ and i put the food away. and lift the tv up and take the chairs out.

Was I supposed to check those?  ;)     I really meant ALL the lights in the rear, not just the turn signals.  Turning on the hazards tells me all will flash at once. If the plug isn't  in right  using 1 turn signal will set off all the lights flashing, and that is what I want to check to be sure just the 1 flashes as it's supposed to.  Can't always see the side lights flsahing due to sunlight.
(yeah, someimes I hit the road before the sun goes down :yikes:)

Either way one still has to get out and do a walk around...LOL

I am pretty sure the DW wouldn't have a clue as to the sequence and procedure of the PU set-up. I do all the set-up outside, while she does the set-up in the inside. We make a perfect team. I am not very good with the inside set-up. I have had on several occasions set up both the outside and inside by myself.... but the DW is much better than I with the inside.

With a lot of noise.  :J :J :J  Kelly - you hush!! ;)

Seriously, CJ and I do it all together when we're camping together, but because of his hearing impairment (or if we have to set up in the dark), sometimes it gets a little noisy!!   We follow campincrew's list with the addition of opening the before the bunks come out (but sometimes we forget!!)  For the most part though, we know our roles and work very well together and like Dee and her hubbie, cover for the other's misses.

When I'm alone - I follow the routine by myself - with a small change.  Since I've yet to master backing up and parking - heaven knows I try!! - I usually end up breaking down and asking some kind and gentle stranger to assist me.  I'm getting better though!!!  Someday - someday!!
