Hello gang,

I'm picking up my First Pop-Up, RV ever on Saturday. I want to start picking up items for future needs. One item I was looking into was all these adapters for your power hook-up. My understanding is my Pop-Up is 25amp rated???? Whatever that means??? I have an A/C unit on the roof and it looks like a 30 or 20 amp powercord coming out the side of my new fleetwood Utah.

Can you guys tell me what I need these other type of power adapters? And can I even hook-up to a 50 amp????

I look forward to your responses....

Matt the "rookie" in San Diego....

Thx

Matt,
Congrats on the new purchase.

Most of the power using devices on your Pop-Up will either be 12volt or 110 volt.  Your AC is 120 volt/30 amp.  you can use any device that you use in your home in your AC outlets, just watch the amperage, your owners manual will tell you what your outlet capacity is.  The 12 volt outlets allow you to use a bunch of stuff made for an auto/van and RV.  Your shore power cable is most likely set up for 30 amp service, but you can buy a 50 amp adaptor so you can plug into a 50amp outlet with out any worry and you can also get an "edison" adaptor to plug into any standard outlet, however, that will not allow you to use the AC since you probably will not have 30 amps in that type of configuration.

Check the manual, and buy extra fuses and keep them in the camper-then have a blast roughing it in the great outdoors. :-()

Matt,

We have all been there.  All three refer o levels of power that you will find available at an electric campsite.  As campincrew pointed out your pop up will come equipped with a 30 amp cord.

Check out my Camping Site Power Web Page for more information and some photos that might make it a little clearer.

Welcome aboard and off topic.  I just wanted to welcome you and to direct you to the local camping club in So. CA.  You can find their site under the Camping Club Forum further down on this board.  They are called the "SoCal Pop Up Campers" (SCCampers or SCC for short) and they are our Northern CA sister club (Nick-neff-cough or NNC).  We both have a lot of fun camping and we try to combine both groups in our yearly rally in June.  We try to pick a place half way between No. and So. CA.  Last year's rally was at Pismo Beach.   So, check out the sites in the Camping Club Forum and join us any time.   You will see by the posts in NNC that quite a few of the SCC group come to No. CA to join us for some of our rallies.  A lot of the time SCC create a caravan and they travel to our rallies together.   Either way, we all have a great time.

Again, welcome.

Thanks for all the input - I bought two adaptors (a 30 amp female to 15 amp male and 30 amp male to a 15 amp female). I figure that should allow me to handle most hook-ups.... Just one question? Is there a difference between the 30 amp and 20 amp male connections> ????

Again thanks for answering my rookie questions....

Hi Joan,

I already found the SCCampers message board and started conversations with some great people. I have already spoke to the wife about the Pismo trip and the Vail Lake Halloween rally.... I should be at both and look forward to future announcements of other campouts.....

Thx Again,

Matt in San Diego :D

Rather than reply to the other possiblity of hooking to a 50A hookup, I trust you will get this info as well as more priceless info from the people on this board that you will be camping with.

Welcome to the board and HAPPY CAMPING!!!
