Has any one ever been Rolfed? If so did it help?

For those who don't know, it's a form of massage therapy. When I first started reading on it , the first thing that came to my mind was hugging porcelain!

Have you ever been Rolfed? Sounds like some sort of a scam............

If that be so, then I'm afraid I've been there, a few times in fact!

A few years back I slipped and fell in the K-Mart parking lot - some moron added some transmission fluid to his/her/its vehicle and left the "empties" right there along with a puddle of the fluid which probably was still left in the containers - who knows; anyway, a short time later out I come from the store looking at some photos that I just had processed, not looking where I was going, stepped into the slippery mess and did a gymnast type back flip, landing kinda funny like on my backside. Must have looked one of those old Dagwood Bumpstead episodes where Dagwwod runs into the postman on the way out the door and the aftermath of a zillion letters floating down - only this time it was photos! I remember how embarrassed I was and also the sharp pain between my shoulder blades; later, as it grew worse and having it checked out, ended up being a ruptured disc. The first doctor I went to sent me to a specialist who then wanted to operate. But I sought another opinion and was referenced to a sports doctor, a DO, who then went to work on me. He sent me first to a hospital physical therapy unit and then later to a private massage therapist. Now, this massage therapist was a former physical therapist who got into this specialized sports muscle & tendon therapy - have no idea what it was technically called. But let me tell you, that therapist was a woman ... a BIG woman - big as a line backer! And had the strongest hands and fingers of anyone who I've ever encountered. When she got to working on me I would beg for mercy! But the bottom line is she got me on my feet in no time and did more for me than all the other medical folks COMBINED.

Wish I knew where she went - understand she become so popular that someone made her an offer she could'nt refuse and moved her off to a big city. Every massage I've ever had since has been a joke!

Old Goat,It does sound like a scam when you first read the word Rolfing, but it is real.   http://www.rolf.org/about/index.htm

Thanks for thr reply Fly.  Been doing some reading on the net about it and  I'm not finding much negative so far. I'm all for alternative therapies and starting to believe the Rolfing combined with my chiro visits (which have helped to a large degree) may be the key. MDs can't do anything but prescribe me drugs.

Luckily my problem isn't my back, but it's chronic with big flare ups and starting to get on my nerves. So any experiences with this Rolfing I can hear about will help me decide what to do. If they end up pulling all the cox 2 inhibitors off the market I'll have to try something!

Maybe your girl moved this way, I found a few in the Ann Arbor Area and 1 in the Detriot area who has a PT background.
