Quote from: kimrb266All of our options have negatives -- the area we stayed at last year was nice and didn't have through traffic but was down right noisy, the loop we stayed at 2 years ago wasn't as nice in my opinion and was noisy with the ampetheater until about 11 pm. Isn't the Arroyo Seca on an upper level? If so, I was told that it gets alot of wind.

As of now, I'd say the loop we were in last year would be a good place but towards the beginning of the loop (away from the niose). We'll still be some what close to the playground & pool and closer to the village and not right next to the ampetheater. This is my opinion and others may not agree.
Arroyo Seca is the brand new section they opened this past year.  As you go to the pool, you turn right to get to this section instead of left as you would go to the pool and playground area.  It has good shade and no thru traffic, other than the campers who are camping in that section.

Chardonnay Mesa is the one that can get a bit windy.  Not necessarily a bad thing if the weaher is as hot as it was the first time we had this rally.  But like i said, it goes REALLY fast.  Last year, I called 10 minutes after 9:00 a.m. (phones open at 9) and I couldn't get more than 12 sites in Chardonnay Mesa.

I think Aroyo Seca might be a good call. :)

Quote from: griffsmomOkay all you math majors--(Dee, is Kevin still up?)--how many are we up to now? :D

Take a look at the camp map. http://www.vaillakeresort.com/campmap.html My first choice is Chardonnay Mesa, but that goes crazy fast. My second choice would be the new Arroyo Seca, which does have W/E and I think S too.

I'm thinking of staying out of the Oaks so that we can have less traffic for the little ones and not have to hear the "scary" sound loop until midnight. Let me know your thoughts.

KEEP IN MIND: we have no reservations yet, so please don't start posting about what site you'd like.  This is all just tentative as to in what section we'd like to try to get sites.

Well as you now I'm NOT a math major, but I did remember some of my algerba and Kevin and I whipped out some good factoring problems tonight.. :eyecrazy:
I lost count and too late for me to think that hard ;)  I'll have to ask Kevin to help me :p

I like the mesa but I think the new section will probaly be better..only drawback it's a little further from the "village" but I know alot of people didn't like the noise where we were at before. Dan had a blast trying to scare people on the hayride...but we all know he's not normal anyway :eyecrazy:

My thought is let's be adventurous and try the new spot maybe #'s 368-391
I think all sites but tent sites are full hook-up

We will probably be camping at VLR the weekend of April 15-17, so I'll check out Seco again.  At this point, I'm thinking that's the best place to be.  Hmmm...could another executive decision be far off...?;)  We could probably easily reserve about 35 sites in that section that are relatively close together, and maybe even more, depending on how the interest level in this rally continues to progress between now and the beginning of April.

oldmoose

I'm sure Will, Pam and hannah will come, but they'll camp in our site.

Griffin will be happy to hear that Hannah may be coming, not to mention Missuh Moose and Miss Powuh! :)

Our first outing with the Sccampers was this one last year.....Our grandkids had a blast with the hayride coming around screaming with and at them!  I liked it too felt like I was apart of all the fun noise and all....However we know anywhere we stay will be fun! One draw back was at Trick-or-Treat time some of the kids around the street was scary..........Well that's my 2 cents worth...........We're just glad we found this group............

You ought to see her face when she says it. She starts smiling until I think she's going to start laughing. BUt that's what he says also.

Everyone have a great weekend. Got to charge the battery and get ready for Calico next week. Trying a bunch of new do treats. Can hardly wait.

Hi Gang, :eyecrazy:

I was out in Temecula today on business and thought I would POP-BYE Vail for a look..... What I am about to tell you could change by OCT. but the park was pretty beat-up in some areas. I know its been 25 years since I was last there but some areas of the park were "BAD". Here's an update of what I viewed today:

1) Only about 20 campsites being used today and almost all the campers were up on the hill (Chardonnay Mesa) with about 3 motorhomes in the Oaks....It could be because of the heavy rains played havic in the park.

2) Merlot Mesa did not even look like a campgound    with roads damaged, powerboxes on each site broke or under repair and under 2 feet of grass and weeds. I really think they are not going to be able to open this area unless there is some type of miracle...

3) Arroyo Seco  :(  looked like a campground left over from the 60's (scary palce and it wasn't even Halloween yet) with the bathrooms missing walls, windows and other bathroom structures abandon all together. I can just see little ones getting hurt in these "run down shacks"

4) Now the good news  :) The entrance to the park, stage, store, office, mini golf and bar looked great and clean. In fact the only sections I would even venture to stay at myself would be the Oaks or Chardonnay Mesa. They were both clean and the sites were in ok shape considering flood damage.

In short.... the Vail resort office personel were mailing out the Halloween Festival flyers today stating they expect a sell-out this year on all three weekends. My advise to the wagonmaster is book early in either the Oaks or Chardonnay Mesa. The rest of the park could be a crap-shot as far as site conditions if we continue to get more rain... I hope the park is cleaned up by then or those will really be the only areas nice enough to camp... Feel free to give me a ring (email me at ussaa@cox.net) and I will provide my phone number..

Just thought you would like a facilities update.

This is where they have the Haunted Hayride and is a tents only area

I personnaly haven't seen it since they opened it, I know Lori Has. I saw it in the building phase & I know what you mean by the rundown bathrooms, I thought maybe they added new ones???

Chardonnay is hard to get the number of sites we need and the oaks people didn't like all the noise from the hayride etc.

unless they Changed the rules: Reservations can't be made until April 1st and that's one of the first things Lori will do that day. (maybe Lori can call to verify reservaton date)

So whats the info on this Temecula campout? We are considering going.  The DD is off school that month so that would be perfect.
