I thought I would post this, as prayers are stonger in numbers. I was  flying to Ohio this weekend to see my best friend for a weekend of fun.
when she sent this e-mail out today about her boyfriends father:

Drop a quick prayer for Dan's Dad --  He went to work in his cooking trailer today and it blew up with him in it, throwing him across the yard.  He is in Ohio State Medical Center right now, and Dan has picked up his mom and they are on their way to the hospital.  No idea of how bad things are, still waiting.  Just say a prayer

Dee,

Count me in.  Hope all goes well.  This will be an ordeal, but it sounds like he was very lucky in an unfortunate situation.

Dee, please make sure that he understands that he MUST do what the doctors tell him to do in the hospital and after he gets out of the hospital.   Many years ago I used to work in the Emergency Medical Services Section in the CA State Department of Health Services and we saw training movies all the time (we certified paramedic training in the colleges).  I learned that the biggest problem is not the burns, but the chance of infection afterward.   My mother also had a bad burn on her left hand and because I kept after her to exercise it and take care of it like the doctors told her to do, she doesn't have much of a scar.   The most important part is to keep it clean.  Tell him to be prepared that it will hurt a lot, especially when they put him in the tub to soak him, then take the dead skin off; but that is part of the healing process.

We will keep him in our prayers.   Wish him good luck and speady recovery from all of us.

Dee--your friend and his dad and family have been added to our prayer list.  You're a good friend to go help take care of them.  Take care of yourself while you're out there.

you guys are the best, I knew I could count on my fellow PUTers here's an update:

[I]Hey guys --

Here is a copy and paste of the update I just sent to Dan.  I am sure he has already called and gotten the same info, but I wanted to make sure everyone knew where we stand.  Nowhere near out of the woods, but keep the prayers coming and I am sure things will continue on a positive path.

Thanks for the calls, e-mails and support

Dee,
Goodness, I hope all continues to go well for your friend's boyfriend's father.  It's a terribly painful process to go through but glad to hear it wasn't worse news.  I will certainly keep them in my prayers and send best wishes to him and his family who will be with him during these trying times.

Deidre, my prayers go out to him and the family.  He is so fortunate to be alive.  I hope he recovers quickly with as little pain as possible.

just an update from Ohio..When I got here Dan (her boyfriend) just got home from the hospital and they wanted him just to stand and walk a few steps..well he walked several yards!!! Dan wanted to tell of you how much he appreciates all your prayers, he's improving but still has a long recovery ahead. Enjoyng the weather, sorry Socal but I brought the sunshine here with me.

I'm back from Ohio and he still continues to improve..but they have him pretty doped up. he was refusing to sign the waiver for the skin grafts he said "they ain't cuttin' on me" and was made when his wife could consent.
but when one of the nurses said "fine..you don't have to do it, but just grab a pillow and get comfy cause that just means you'll be here an extra 3-4 months"
he said "okay they can do it"..he still has a very long road ahead of him..

Dee, I glad to hear he's improving....Sounds like a really strong man.   It's a slow painful process but he sure seems to have a great attitude.   :>   My prayers will continue to be with him.

again thanks to all of you who continue to keep him in your prayers. and an update :

Good morning everyone

Dee4j

Thanks again ...to all of you..update to follow:

WOOOOO HOOOOOOOOOOOOO!   Guess what folks --  he wasn't kidding when he
called!!!  The hospital called and said they were releasing him today, and
that he is good enough to go home!  Dan's brother Tommy is on his way to get
their Mom, and they will head over to the hospital and pick him up!  He has
come a long way, and I am still keeping prayers going for no infection, and
praying that he continues to forget that he smokes.  He told his wife he
didn't need a patch, that he had quit that years ago.

At any rate, it was only the last few days, despite the digestive setback,
where he was getting better more and more quickly, was up yesterday and
using the restroom by himself, walking.  He is in pain still, but my
goodness, just like that, he's going home!!

I'll keep you posted from time to time, and I just can't say enough to you
all for keeping the prayers going, both yourselves and your church circles,
e-mails, phone calls and overall support.  Obviously, as we see in this case
that could have otherwise had a much different outcome, there is power in
prayer, especially in numbers!

You all have a fabulous, happy, sunny, safe weekend!!!!!
