I would be happy to help with the potlucks...Come on Kim, please help me!

Yay!!  Sounds like fun.  Glad there aren't bears, although you can't be too careful in the woods. :yikes:

Can't wait.

I'd be glad to help host the potlucks.  I feel that everyone should be responsible for picking up after themselves and shouldn't leave much of a mess behind.

Just some words of "potluck encouragement" from someone who has been to and even hosted her fair share of them:

Hosting the potluck merely means that it just happens to be your site that everyone gathers at to eat.  In the past, everyone has always chipped in and dragged whatever tables and chairs were necessary to put the food on and sit down and eat.  After the potluck, I've never experienced a situation where those who were there didn't clean up after themselves.  It does make it convenient and helpful if you can have a big trash bag handy, though.

Overall, the potlucks are meant to be a very casual thing.  It's all about being able to get together with your fellow campers and have some good conversation over some delicious food.  It shouldn't be something you worry or stress about. :)

Have a great time at Heise.  We'll raise our glasses in your honor over at Vail Lake and then hopefully, we'll all get to see each other at Pismo in June! :D

So True, So True,
my only thought was the picnic area....saving tables.  (Since we are so spread out the picnic area would be a good idea)  You said Lori, plan it and they will come......we have 10 familys with about 30 people.  Pretty darn happenin' for a self serve rally......don't you think.  Have a great time at Vail Lake.

DITTO to all that Lori said and as far as the campfire, (which would usually be found at my site). I say.. If you light it they will come, and if they don't.. their loss :J

Camping Coxes

Quote from: PopUpMommaEstelle, I asked about the bears. They said in 1999 they had a problem all over the area but haven

Quote from: Camping CoxesWhen we were there, the summer before the fires, there were no bears, but a lot of squirrels. Remind your kids about not trying to "lure them" in close. These are people-friendly squirrels and they've learned people will feed them. I'd hate to hear of a child getting bitten.

A must while you're there is the short hike. I believe it's about 1 mile. It has a variety of scenery and you feel like you go from deep forest to desert. It's fairly easy, but with some big steps carved into the trail. Take your camera -- at one point you have a beautiful sweeping view of the mountains.

There is a big grassy open area in front of the shower area. It's a great location to organize flag football or over the line or something like that.

On your way in to the park, you'll pass a B&B being rebuilt from buring to the ground, the Julian White House.  Let me know how it's going, they're friends of ours.  Keep your eyes peeled in the fields for wild deer and turkey and quail.

Have a great time.  Wish I were going with you!

Thanks for all the info.  All of it is very helpful.  Will check out the Julian White House for you and let you know.

How come you can't make it??

One week to go.........

For those of you who have never been to Heise, fill your water at the dump station....(that sounds nasty)  There are no water hookups in any of the sites.  However, we have filled up with a REALLY LONG HOSE before.  Kinda a pain....The partial hook-ups are electricity only.

Be sure to come by and see us Friday night (site 8) as we have treats for the kids, (and even the adults) I have signs to put in your PU and the scavenger hunt if anyone wants to play.  (I even have a prize)

I don't think we will get there before 5:00  :(   But  gotta work.....earn those funds......so we can CAMP!!! :p

See  you all there!!

Sounds wonderful.  I can't believe it's only 1 week away!!

We'll probably be there around 5:00 also.  Not sure when DH will get home from work, but Friday's he usually shuts down shop and skips a little early.  Usually to surf, but next week to camp.  :D

We will definately come see you Friday night.  Is someone having a campfire at their site or is this a community fire?  I was just wondering what we were going to do Friday night and where we'll be partying. ;)

PS:  Hey Roberta, I was noticing that you live in Rancho SD.  My brother lives there.  They live on Via Antigua.  Any idea where that is?

Just thought I would ask.

Estelle

PopUpMomma

Wow...small world.  If it's the same Via Antigua, it's very near the middle school which is walking distance from where we are.  We are up the hill a bit.
