I taught myself how to quilt about 3 years ago and have made about 12 or 14 quilts since then.  Only problem is that I'm strictly a machine quilter, which is pretty difficult to take camping.   So now, I'm teaching myself how to knit, since it's more easily tranportable.

Now, my DH is starting to think about getting into geo-camping, so I may not find myself sitting still long enough to get any knitting done!!! :D

So what hobbies do you like to do or take with you when you go camping? :)

BTW, if you have nothing better to do, you can see a couple of the more recent quilts and knitting projects I've made on my webshots page: http://community.webshots.com/user/griffysmom2

Starcraft Dad

Photography mostly........Digital now.  I just purchased a  Konica Minolta DiMage Z3.  Now I can do things with it I never dreamed I could with a digital camera.  The kids are getting sick of me using them for camera experiments. :eyecrazy:

I still have a couple 35mm cameras and 2 HP digitals  but they don't even come close to the Minolta.

Lori, when do you find time to this?  Beautiful work!

Reading, taking pictures, and talking by the fire are things I like to do when we camp.  I have been thinking about going back to doing counted cross-stitching, but haven't so far.  Your quilts are beautiful.:)

Wonderful work, Lori!!

I kept telling myself I should pick up a camping hobby ... but I found by the time I was done chasing kids (and taking pictures of them!) I didn't have any time left!  So now I tell myself Camping is the Hobby and everything else is gravy!  LOL

For me it would be reading, napping, fishing, napping, hiking, napping, taking pictures, and wandering the campground.

WOW Lori..those quilts are amazing! You have done a beautiful job! :>

endless horizons

Hi,

At first all I did was keep the campsite organized. Then we purchased our pop-up and after figuring out how I would organize my self in it; I took up reading. I don't get car sick so I started with the left behind series and so on. I can't read and watch sports with my husband so I also started knitting.
I have always had a problem with sitting and doing nothing. Although I'm watching tv I still have the need to be doing something. ( know I'm crazy) but knitting really has filled the need to be busy while relaxing. hmm.
Your quilts are beautiful and so is your knitting.  Both seem to really be catching on. I have found it is something young girls like to try and like the old days it is a chance to talk and just hang out as women of all ages.

We (Sal and myself) usually read, nap, eat, nap, read, talk to other campers, sit aroung the campfire, etc.   Sometimes we don't even want to read we just sit and zone out listening to the CDs we bring along.  I might even be treated to Sal playing his guitar.

Kayaking, Hiking, Photography, Cooking!

For DW it's Kayaking, Hiking, posing subjects, Reading!

I like to cross-stitch.  It's easy enough to lug around.  The downside is that I need good light to do it, so unless I have hook-ups, it's only a daytime project.  Other than that, I'm reading all the books I don't get done during the school year.

We love hiking,sight-seeing,Letterboxing,reading,and sitting around the campfire making use of our pie irons.Star gazing and bird watching are also fun. Some of our seasonal activties include swimming and wild flower and fungus identification. So much to do-sure would be nice to have more time.

Campaholics

The quilts are fantistic!

We are both reading junkies.  DW will bring her counted cross stitch.  I have been collecting and testing camping recipies for the last 20 years.

Lori, thats some outstanding work there! Okay, I had to stop by and visit the chicken pot pie too:D

As far as hobbies, I like to snap a picture or two on camping trips. It's amazing, a lot of the good camping places are also the most photogenic too!

OC Campers

I enjoy reading when we camp.  My dh enjoys fly fishing, lake fishing and hiking.  I really enjoy it when he takes the kids on a hike and I get an hour of peace and quiet to just relax.

I have personally seen Lori's quilts and they are beautiful.  The pictures do not do them justice.  Knitting too?  Where do you find the time?

I'm going to sound a bit out of whack here but I like to do nothing,  Nil, Jack Squat.  I drive 75 miles, one way, to work 5 days a week.  On weekends I do  stuff around the house I can't do when I get home from work because I'm too tired .  So when I camp it's all about decompressing.  I guess that's what I do when I camp.....Decompress.

On a side note, it also gives me time with my DD which as we all know is "Priceless"
