I am installing my own hitch, wiring and brake controller on my new Dodge Ram. Hitch took ten minutesm moving on to controller and wiring harness. I'm looking for the factory plug under the dash to find the factory plug to plugf in the Dodge adaptor for my brake controller. Instructions on line say it's blue and next to the parking brake. Am I missing something?

Also, I bought the Dodge wiring harness and it looks pretty straight foreward except there is a blue wire. I'm guessing tht's for the brake contoller and I shouldn't need it since I bought the Dodge adaptor?

I don't have a Dodge Ram but I can tell you where I found the plug in a Yukon. There is a plastic cover about 4" x 4" just to the right of the parking brake. There was a plastic nut that just unscrewed. I found quite a few plugs there and the inside of the cover told me exactly which one to plug it into. Maybe you have something similar.

Thanks Mark, I will take a look.  I am at the end of my rope and will probably take it to a hitch shop if I can't figure it out tomorrow..

The blue wire on my 2000 Ram 1500 is for the trailer brakes. I hooked up my brake controller and the plug for it was just above the steering column under the dash...I don't know if the later models have the same setup........

O.K., since OC Camper is installing a Prodigy, maybe you or someone else can answer this for me.  I currently have a DrawTite brake controller (the kind with the separate hand held controller) on my 1997 Expedition.  If I want to switch to a Prodigy, is it a matter of unplugging my DrawTite and plugging in the prodigy or will I need a new wiring harness or simply hard wire the Prodigy in?  Also, in the case of the latter, should the colors on the wires coming out of the Prodigy be the same as the DrawTite?  I just don't want to get in over my head!

Thanks,
Lynn

The Prodigy comes with a wiring harness that fits the Prodigy end of the connection.  All you would have to do is connect the Prodigy wires to the current wires.  The Prodigy plug, unplugs from the back of the Prodigy so you can remove it when not needed or move it between vehicles.

TLHDOC, so, as I understand it, the "vehicle" end of the Prodigy harness should plug right into the connector that my current controller is plugged into?  Does the Prodigy come with the harness?

Thanks,
Lynn

The Prodigy usually comes with the connector and then bare wires. If you want the entire harness you will probably have to order it. However, you could just cut off your old connector and splice the new connector onto the wires of your current connector. If you are dead set on getting a 'factory made' harness then you could find what you want from here. http://www.tekonsha.com/prodig.htmlAnd then order from here http://www.etrailer.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=E&Product_Code=90185&Category_Code=BC

Thanks Mark.  I'll give it a try.  I can splice fairly well.  GOt some heat shrink tubing around somewhere too.  Not sure if my existing controller is plugged in to the Expedition or just spliced in anyway.  guess I'll crawl up under the dash and see.  Or as a friend of mine says... "up in under there"!

Thanks,
Lynn
