I am installing a seven pin factory wiring harness in my new Dodge truck and am having a little trouble. If I wasn't in so deep, I'd probably take it to U Haul but it's a matter of pride now.

I still have yet to find the factory plug for the controller under the dash. Bought what I thought was the plug at the dealer but it's the part that plugs in to the factory plug. I am probably going to hard wire the controller. Having figured that out I moved on to the Dodge wiring harness. The rear wired easy enough although I have some soldering to do.I've ran it under the truck and geeoked it up under the hood. The blue lead off the harness hooks to the controller and the read to the battrery, easy enough. My last issue is, will this thing charge my battery when toeing or do I need to change something in the rear plug? Also, how woulds I tell if it is charging?

Please help, I'm dying here!

Are you sure your vehicle has a factory plug under the dash?

If you can't find the factory plug under the dash, try behind the plastic "kickplate" on the side down by where your left foot would be.  That's what "Behind the dash" means to Toyota.  Plus it is probably camoflouged with a fake plug in already in it.  The seven pin will charge your battery but it is only a trickle charge.  Hope this helps.  If all else fails, call the dealer. They will probably balk if you ask them to show you but be persistant.  After I called Toyota's Corporate office my dealer bent over backwards for me.  Good Luck

Thanks Brian for all your suggestions.  We tried calling the dealer twice to no availe.  We gave up and will be taking it to a hitch place on Friday to have it installed.  Randy (dh) is pretty mechanical but this one has him stumped.

Instead of calling a dealer who usually charges big $$$ call a local hitch installer, if you were down here I'd tell you to call Orange hitch..They've always done good work for me.
good luck, see you in June

my 2002 Dodge Ram Van 1500 did not have a wiring plug under the dash.  I had to  trace the correct wires and make all the connections myself.  Not too bad of a deal, it did take me 2 days to complete though.

Randy gave up.  It goes into the hitch shop tomorrow.  I guess this is a prime example of why we should of paid for the towing package.  The salesman talked us out of it. Go figure.

Sorry to hear that Randy had to give up.
When I got our Safari, I installed the break controller myself.
I did a Google search, and found a few sites where people had already done the installation themselves, and had taken plenty of photos as they did the work.

Here's one I found:

and it looks like, if the truck did not come with the towing package, then there is no harness under the dash.

I just couldn't find that stupid brake controller plug under the dash. I even called the dealer and they couldn't help me. I basically installed the harness and hitch and took it to Trucksmart in Rocklin. They did find it, I was so frustrated I didn't even want to know where. They charged me for an hour labor to finish the job and install the brake controller. They did a really good job and didn't over charge me. By doing at least a large chunk of the work on my own, it cost $350.00 using Mopar hitch and wiring accessories and a Prodegy controller. I paid $550.00 to set up my Astro Van four years ago. The dealer would have charged $600.00 just for the hitch and seven pin harness so all in all, the frustration was worth it. All I'm waiting for now is my draw bar with sway control mount and I'm in business! I expect to test-tow my trailer this weekend!

Glad you finally got it done.  Like I said, my plug wasn't even under the dash, it was under the side plastic down by my feet!  Look on the bright side...you are almost done!
