A friend of mine recommended a book that listed the core of engineer cg's.  However, the paper that the title was written on has been misplaced.

Anyone have an idea what the title of the book might be?

Thanks

I don't know how the COE cg's are in your area, but they are some of the nicest in our area. Clean, level sites, and you can reserve sites as well (a big plus, in my book). Also, the fees are reasonable, and usually not much more than state parks.

So, I recommend checking them out, when you figure out which book it is!

We overnighted in a COE campground near Claremore, Oklahoma in 2002 and it was great............

Thanks Chas

I ordered it.  Will let you know if it is worth it.

We glanced at that book yesterday at Camping World - let me know if it's worth buying.

Yeah thanks Chas and Genef!
I can hear Mary now "Don't you have enough camping books already"!!!
I ordered mine the day this thread hit!!!

LOL Gary

Let's see, you like my 23B and the book I mentioned here.

Now if you want to get Mary to relax, I did buy Dw one of those LaFuma type reclining camp chairs on our trip.  I think it was about $100.  A little cheaper than the real thing but she loves it. :)

Hey, THAT'S worth a try!
Thanks, Genef!!!
That might just work!

I just recieved the book and browsed through it.

Interesting to note that there are only 35 states with these campgrounds.

Prices seem to be on the reasonable side.  Roughly $6 to $20.  With a Golden Age Passport, you can camp for half price so this could make for some inexpensive camping for seniors.

Some cgs are for groups only.

Thing that seems to be lacking are good maps.  They show a basic map of the state and use black dots to indicate where they are located.  Only the interstates are shown.

Each cg does list directions on how to get there but not sure if they are specific enough.

Several of the cgs offer electric sites and water availability.

If i was going to do a trip through only one or two states, I could most likely get this info off of the web but on a long trip, like we are planning, the book may come in handy.

Maryland shows one cg while Oklahoma shows 23 cgs.

Indiana has several Corps CG and Ive been to 4. Ive never been disappointed . They are clean, family oriented and near water. Alot of times you can camp right on the water. The parks are patrolled better by the DNR then regular SP's. I think Ill give that book a look also............:book:

I've stayed at 2 COE campgrounds and wasn't disappointed with either one.  They were both clean and well-maintained.

The best part, though was definitely the lack of crowds!  I don't know if it's because it was August in New Mexico and Kansas (hotter than hot!!) or because they were sort of off the beaten path.  I'd stay at another one any time...
