Hello,
We have a 1978 Venture Buckingham pop up camper that we bought used. We set it up here at home to check everything out and get a feel for it since we have never owed a pop up before. When I was cranking it down I stopped to check something and the handle spun out. I got it down that time but when I went to rasie it the next time it would not go up. There is alot of slack in the cable. I believe the cable broke when it the handle spun out. Can anyone tell me if this is something we might can fix or do we need to take it to someone. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Welcome to PUT.  A broken lift cable can usually be replaced if you are handy, but  I don't know anything about your brand of trailer, so I am sorry that I can't help you.  Hopefully someone will chime in to help you out.:)

I spent most of yesterday and part of today replacing one of my cables. It would not have been too difficult if I'd not cut it too short!
I'll be buying another cable this week and trying it again.  Get a crimper if you can, but you can also use a hammer & chisel to crimp the ferrule.

Hello. I'm no expert but in the last few weeks i've had a crash course in pop-up lift cables. From your description of the problem you had i would think maybe one or more of your cables came out of the pully and/or the correct path they are suppose to follow. If one or more is actually broken it is easy to tell by looking under the trailer. My camper (88 Coleman Sequioa) has 4 seperate cables, each starting from the center/underside and running to each corner.

Hope that is some help.    Phil T.

One question.... are your cables under the floor of the PU, or up in the walls of the PU?

I owned a 1978 Palomino that had the cables in the wall, and was able to replace the cable really easily. Let me know which style you have.

I have four broken cables on my Starcraft.  My buddy and I tried to repair them, but were unsuccessful.  They seem to connect to one part underneath the camper as far as we can tell.  When we tried to remove one corner's old cable, we were confused as to how to put the new cable on the pullys.

Anyone who can direct us or has a manual on this??
thanks.

Send a e-mail directly to Starcraft.

Great technical support, and they will send you a copy of the lift manual.

 Hope this helps.
