Well, Dave's trial on the 24th settled, so we're going to give O'Neill Regional Park a try.  It can't be more than 5 miles from our house, so at least it's close.  OC Campers had a bad experience there a couple of years ago, but maybe they've cleaned things up...we'll let you know.  It's dry camping but we're okay with that, now that Dave has his Honda EU2000i generator

Tomorrow morning (early! :morning: ) we board a flight to Sundance, Utah, for Dave's cousin's wedding.  It's at the Sundance Resort, and they have many activities planned all weekend for both big and small.  Posh, with a capital P-O-S-H.  Should be a bunch of fun, or at least a glimpse of how the other half lives!  "See" you all back here Monday. :D

Lori~

We went to this campground last year in April and had alot of fun. The only thing I noticed was this guy next to us. He was in his van and just sat there watching us for quite awhile. We were trying to figure out what he was doing, then he ended up moving to another site on the other side of the campground. Maybe he just didn't want to camp next to my girlfriend and I and ALL OUR KIDS.  :eyecrazy: Between the both of us I think we had 6 that weekend.  :!

Anyways, the campground was fine, they even had a nice nature center with alot of things for the kids in it. They also had a couple of hikes led by the ranger. Who knows, we might end up camping there at the same time :D  as you guys.

let us know...I haven't heard to many good things about this place, I heard it can have a transient population, but haven't been there to know first hand...maybewe'll stop by and say hi :p

Hey Jen and Dee--c'mon down!  we're in site 17--a big honkin' pull-thru. :D

I thought it was first come, first served.

I thought it was first come too.  Lori I hope you guys have a great time.  The area this place is in is so beautiful, if the rangers did a little work and gave the park a little TLC it could be a wonderful out of the way camground.  Unfortunately, in the past they have had a lot of homeless people living out of their cars staying here.  Maybe they have figured out a way to stop this from happening.

Congratulations on the new generator.  You have just opened up a new world of camping.  Will this will be your maiden voyage with dry camping?

Hey gang - How are you? I was looking to go to O'Neill park too, but it's first come first serve???? How did you get a space???? I'm interested to hear the details.... And please let us know about the trip.... I have kids 7yo and 11yo, so details on things the kids could do would be great........

I look forward to your response.

Regards,

Matt in San Diego :D

We will be there this Friday (5/20) through Sunday (5/22).  We are in site 17.

They started taking reservations about a month or so ago.  You can reserve online at http://www.ocparks.com/Arroyotrabuco/ and then click on the right side navigation button that says "Make a Reservation"  They were having trouble with their web site when I made our reservations last week, so you can also call 800-600-1600 to make a reservation.

Could we possibly have a mini-rally on our hands? ;)

I have a 4 y/o and it looks like he won't be bored.  There is a nature center and a playground.  There are also nice roads within the park for riding bikes, and if you and your kids like to mt. bike, there is a trail that goes along a mostly dry creek bed (there are a couple of small stream crossings) that a buddy and I used to ride all the time B.G. The ride is a good work out without being too strenuous and is very fun and scenic.  There are also horseback riding opportunities just outside the park.

Finally, there is a hiking trail called the Vista Trail that is maybe a couple of miles RT and has great views of the local mountains in one direction and the ocean in the other.  A local Eagle Scout installed "viewing tubes" as part of his Eagle Scout project that allow you to look through them and identify exactly what it is you're looking at.  I think we may be up for giving this hike a try.

 HTH! :)

Christy,

If you can get a moment away from the scouts, please feel free to stop by and say hi.  We'd love to meet you in person, especially since we're neighbors and all. :D

Lori, we will do our best to stop on by. Wow we are neighbors arn't we.We are hoping to get there and set up about 4 or so and the scouts won't start until 6 so we should have time. Look for us as well, I have no idea where we are going to be as someone else is doing the reservations but we have a starcraft 3606 high wall.

Sounds great!  My DH, Dave, will probably be there early afternoon.  We have a Coleman Sun Valley and a white Expedition TV, but we'll be easily recognizable by all the "stuff" we bring. :yikes:

Dee, if you can't camp, but don't have plans for Saturday dinner, you, Dan and the kids are welcome to join us!  Bring the kids' bikes and they can ride around.
