We have gone to Fort Wilderness in our Sequoia Pop up ten times with a 2 week stay each trip.  Needless to say we saw and did everything Disney has to offer.  Coleman paid for itself in hotel equivelant fees.  This is the best campground in the world.  Service and cleanliness is olutstanding.  Their security is top notch.  Our son wandered from the site and got lost and we called security and 10 minutes later he arrived in a wdw station wagon.  This place is so great, you experience a culture shock when you depart from the campgground at vacvation's end.

We live by Disneyland, and after all that I've read about FW, I sure wish that Disneyland would build something similiar to it out here.  I'm sure my 4 y/o would love it!!

I totally agree.  We go every year around June and stay for at least 10 days.  It's awesome.  We usually do a theme park one day, take a day off and hang out at the campground...do a theme park, take a day off. FW is so big and there is so much to do.

Went to Fort Wilderness for the first time last year and had a great time.  When we considered where to go for our summer vacation this year there was no doubt where it would be.  This year though we are not visiting the parks.  There is so much to do and see in Fort Wilderness that we are going to take advantage of it.  Daughter loves the pool, Chip n Dale evening movies, horseback riding, jetski's etc.  The staff and other visitors are so nice.  Facilities are first rate, clean and well maintained.

I agree, until you visit and look around, you may have difficulty understanding the impressiveness of Fort Wilderness.  Many have said that Fort Wilderness is the standard by which all commercial campgrounds should be judged.  I do agree with this!  The campground boasts over 700 camping sites with a wonderful canopy of trees throughout.  With swimming pools, arcades, marina (sorry you can't bring your own boat) and activities galore there is something for every camper.  With so many sites, the campground is divided into individual camping loops of 30 or 40 sites. Each loop has both a number (i.e. the 1900 loop) and a name (i.e. Conestoga Trail).  It is hard to imagine the size and scope of Fort Wilderness until you have been there.

We have season tickets to all the Disney Themes parks. We have camped at Fort Wilderness for the past 10 years now. We just purchased our first PU camper in September. The information provided in PU times helped consirably. We currently make a point to camp at Fort Wilderness at least once a month. We actually go camping twice a month now with the PU. We love FW and so do our children. Its a truely magical place. The staff is incredable and the campers there are spectacular. Its hard to go anywhere else because every place else seems a distant second. We have camped at FW so many times we cannot remember and everytime its been enjoyable. We have never had a bad experience. I think everyone should camp there at least once. There is so much to do you do not have to leave the campground. However if you do there is a little known secret. If you camp at FW and decide to go to any of the theme parks you can get in a hour before the theme parks open. We typically get into to Disney at 8:00am and ride all the rides that we want to ride because the park is basically empty. By the time the park opens at 9:00am everyone conjures around main street and works their way  back. Because we have a hour head start on everyone we typically have done everything our children wanted to do and we can leisurely enjoy our day. You can get a stamp if you do not have passes and go back to the campground have lunch and come back to the park afterwards. And you can do all this without touching your car keys. Its fantastic.

Hi! I'm still new here, so I have a couple of questioins.
Has anyone stayed here in the fall(October)? As you can see by my username, we LOVE Walt Disney World. We have always stayed at a Disney resort, but would like to take our PU to Fort Wilderness. We have no AC in our PU, so how hot is it there @ Oct? I know the temps can flucuate quite a bit that time of year. Are the lots shaded? The other thing is that we live in Maine, so it would be quite a ride down there, does the Good Sam club help with trip planning like this?
Thanks for the help!

We've not camped at Fort Wilderness, but have some experience with Florida.  I would think Oct. high temps would be in a mid 80's range.  Our daughter has lived in Ocala, near Orlando.  She says residents commonly wear shorts and T shirt early in the morning up to around Thanksgiving.  There are several web pages, //www.weather.com is one, that would give you average monthly temps for any area you wish to examine.  Good Sam Club does have a trip routing function.  I would imagine it would take you down I95 from Maine to Florida, at least that would be the most direct route.  I have driven I95 myself from Baltimore to Titusville or Ocala several times recently.  If traveling that route, I think you would want to be careful of the time of day traveling from about Boston to Fredricksburg.  Easiest and fastest would be overnight driving through this section.  It will get crowded during morning and evening commutes through this section.  Below Fredricksburg, I95 should be smooth sailing.  Once in Florida, you would take I4 from Daytona to Orlando.

Are you looking to drive straight through or stopping along the way for sleep?  We generally drive straight through, but it's shorter for us than it would be for you.  For reference, we can make it from Corning, NY to Titusville in about 18.5 hours, but we're not towing when we do it.  It's about 1100 miles for us to Titusville, and Orlando would be about the same distance.  We stop every 2 hours for about 10 minutes for stretching, gas as needed, snacks and drinks as needed, and switching drivers and we don't get "saddle sore" this way.  We generally stop for 1 meal along the way, usually fast food.  Towing a camper would slow us down by about 10 mph for trip, adding about 2.5 hours to our time.

If you know or can find an experienced East coast long haul trucker, they will be able to direct you through the Boston to Fredricksburg section during the day using alternate routes.

BTW, we are also great WDW fans ourselves.  We were most recently there just about a month ago.  I would recommend "The Unofficial Guide to WDW" as a reference, if your not already familiar with it yourselves. Lots in there about the parks as well as Fort Wilderness.

Have fun!!!!!

Hi!  This is my first post here, ever and it gets to be on something I know about, yippee!

Anyway, my first camping trip as an adult, on my own, was to Disney's Fort Wilderness ten years ago.  I have been back every year since and have graduated from a tent to a pop-up, to a travel trailer and am now going back to a pop-up.  FW is the epitomy of campgrounds, I have camped in 45 of the contiguous states and every year my favorite vacation is FW.  I often don't even visit the parks there is so much to see and do in FW.  I loved it here so much, I moved to the area (I now live about 15 minutes from Disney) and still plan vacations at FW.  In fact, I just got back from a week there and have 2 weeks planned at Christmas.
As for the weather, you just never know, it can be hot or it could be cool.  It can get very hot here, however, FW has a lot of shade.  There is a natural canopy that provides a lot of shade during the heat of the day.  So if you were to come in October and had a fan you would be ok during the day.  At night it can get a little nippy (by Floridian standards) but a sweat shirt can and usually does suffice.
I am a Good Sam member but have never used the trip planning, so I can't speak to that (I am a total control freak so I prefer to do my own "planning".)  But I am sure if you contact them they would knock it out for you.
I hope you get to plan a trip to FW soon, every camper/vacationer should experience the magic of Walt Disney World's Fort Wilderness Campground, it is a magical place.  :S
