pop up bedding question...

hi we are normally tenters and hopefully going to join the pop up world.  anyway we are doing a weeks vacation at danforths bay in nh.  instead of worring about rain with our tent my dh suggested "why don't we rent a pop up for this week?"  and we did!!!  this is a great opportunity to try this out and see how much we enjoy camping with a pu.  
ok now for my question:

how does everyone makeup there beds do you sleep on sleeping bags or just make it up like a regular bed?  any suggestions or tips.

we have a layer of memory foam over our mattresses (before then, we did use an air bed over the mattress; just for comfort).. we then put a flat sheet over it... we also have sleeping bags that either we crawl in or sleep on top (depending on the weather).

We open up a sleeping bag that we sleep on top of and then open another sleeping bag to cover us.  To make the beds in the morning, we just straighten the sleeping bags. Easy squeezy!

We have sheets on the beds and use sleeping bags.  I like to think it helps protect the foam mattresses.  My 2 DDs sleep in separate bags, my DH & I open them up & put one bag on the bottom & one on top as a comforter.

I put fitted sheets on both bunk ends.  The girls sleep in their sleeping bags on top of the sheet on the king-size bunk.  On the other bunk ~ I  cover up with a flat sheet and use my sleeping bag as a comforter.  DS sleeps on the dinette in his sleeping bag ~ no sheet.

This is another one of those questions that will have numerous answers, all up to the individual preference. We've tried the sleeping bags and DH is warm, I'm too hot. We tend to use sheets and blankets because they are more easily customized for each sleeper, DH gets a heavy quilt, I use a lighter blanket. We still carry the sleeping bags though for quests and emergency situations. It all depends on what you want to carry and how picky you are when it concerns your sleeping comfort.

I have purchased regular sheets and just make the bed with them. We do sleep with our feet in towards the camper not side to side. This is also something that has 2 schools of thought on it. Some people are too tall to do this but for us it saves someone crawling over the other for potty breakes during the night. I also have a light weight quilt over the sheets and they stay made up as we pack up, unless they need to be washed.

You can't leave yet! There a lots more options. Problem is, you're renting -- no reason to go to great expense this trip. Whatever you used for tent camping will work in the PU. I almost urge you to use exactly the same as what goes in your tent to experience the improvement at the most basic level (e.g., off the ground). We used to add sheets inside our sleeping bags when we tented. We did that a number of times after we moved into the PU.

I don't think that will matter....one trip in a PU and they'll be hooked and buying one before their next trip :J

We use foam UNDER the mattress, and sheets. My wife also uses a sleeping bag as a blanket, which she says I steal during the night but I know I don't because if I am very warm blooded and only need the sheet! I think she gets warm and kicks it off!
Anyway... We use the foam under the mattress because we like a firm bed and that way it gives a little more cushion before your hips hit the plywood!

OK, I'm going to copy in something I just posted in another thread here ... because I kinda like the way our mattress setup works :cool:

On our beds, we put a "egg crate" foam pad on each mattress, and have the mattress and foam inside a waterproof vinyl zippered mattress bag (the type you can get at places like WalMart, KMart or Target). Those bags are generally "rough" surfaced, so things don't slide easily. That has the double advantage of keeping our mattress combination in one nice package, and guaranteeing that if we get a leak, a wet person on the bed, wet dogs on the bed, etc etc etc we won't have to worry about soaking (and having to dry) mattresses. When we pop down, the mattress/foam/bag combination stays together (makes the lid tight, but not too bad) so if it's raining or the canvas is wet, our mattresses will stay dry. If DD wants to use a sleeping bag, she can do that, although we still put at least a fitted sheet on.
 
DW and I sleep with sheets and a blanket (and if it's too cold, DW pulls her "heated blanket", i.e. ME, on top of her ). Our last trip, DW and I shared the smaller bunk, DD shared the king with Mom-In-Law. We all used sheets and blankets and were plenty comfy.
